Hello!
I'm running a registered copy, latest version MC 18 (beta update switched on). There is very annoying bug: sudden track change in the middle of the song (forward), sometimes to the beginning of the same track. I don't see any regularity, it just happens several times a day on playing lossless (ape, flac) from internal hard drive.
Config: Desktop computer on Win 7 Pro 64, pretty clean (I use the machine solely for music and video).
Could you please help on the issue?
Thank you!

What sound device and driver are you using?
-
Sound device:
WEISS DAC 202 Firewire
latest proprietary drivers, Kernel Streaming.
Yesterday I found that it could suddenly jump on 2 tracks back.
There were no such problems with MC 17 or early beta builds of MC 18.
-
I have no idea. It's the only such report I'm aware of.
Try WASAPI Event Style and DirectSound, just to test. Try a different connection to the DAC if possible.
-
Does your computer have a remote control device at all?
-
I have seen video get forwarded or moved back by scrolling the mouse wheel while the focus was NOT on MC. It only happens sometimes, and only on video so far, but maybe this is what is happening to you with your audio. is it maybe happening when you're using your mouse wheel?
Probably not, and if not, I have no idea what could be causing it, sorry.
-
I use Web Gizmo and Android Gizmo, but I've tried to turn off net access - no effect.
I use only Bluetooth keyboard Logitech DiNovo Edge and Logitech wireless mouse (with proprietary receiver) as hardware controls.
No it's definitely not the mouse wheel, because it happens without touching anything at all (it's just media center computer). It happens while MC window is active.
I'll try to use WASAPI and report here, but unfortunately I can only connect DAC via Firewire.
-
I've tried WASAPI and WASAPI Event-style. All the same - observed sudden one reset to the beginning of the track and one jump one or two tracks down change. :(
Do you need any logs maybe?
-
Possibly worth disconnecting the wireless keyboard and mice as a test - maybe if you've got a wired set lying around.
I've seen some strange things like that.

Yep, I'd try fresh batteries in them too, flat batteries can give all sorts of funky keypresses :)

does this also happen to you when the "bug" shows itself ? I have the same problem but it is difficult to explain. I know that cue files makes it present itself at some point but I did see the same happen with only flac files albums, no cue file.
Edit: Could it be related to this ?
"7. NEW: Added basic support for FLAC files with embedded CUE files."

I have a Logitech wireless mouse that sometimes moves itself... could be the source, also interference from other wireless sources...
-
I've just tried to
reinstall MC.
Remove bluetooth receiver (to eliminate possible signals from other devices)
turn off mouse by removing batteries
Still the same issue.

I observe this bug on single flacs as well as on flac(ape,wv)+cue.
Is it possible to retrieve some logs from MC maybe?

Please post the full version number.

Logging is available under Help > Logging.
Not sure if what it captured will be helpful or not. That's very odd... I can imagine it being a hardware issue, but you'd think that changing modes would impact it then... Does it even happen in DirectSound mode?
Have you tried un/reboot/reinstalling any audio hardware drivers?

The log shows when a track change is triggered, but I don't know if it shows what triggers it. (Matt??)
If you've got onboard sound, it may be an idea to try it, but at the moment, I'd be more inclined to point the finger at the files themselves.
Try running a few of your problem files through Audiotester and see if it complains about anything:
http://www.vuplayer.com/other.php
If you've got another machine entirely (Laptop?), I'd try them on that and see if they skip there too.
Unfortunately at the moment, this is a slow process of elimination :(
Once we find that cause though, I'm hopeful that JR will be able to fix it quickly enough!

I've tried DirectSound and ASIO. It seems that the problem disappeared with them. When switched to Kernel Streaming - bug appeared again after 2 tracks. Are there any chance to make it all right with "right" WASAPI and Kernel?
I've turned the logging on.
I also experience very funny bug: the moving indicator at the top, which shows the timing, at the next song (for example if I begin to play one song and MC moves automatically to the next) don't move (it stays at the beginning of the song) and even all "repeat" options are off MC could repeat the same song again and again, or could move to the next song, but indicator always stays at the beginning until I hit "NEXT" or "STOP". Close MC - Open MC helps.
Thank you for assistance!
-
UPDATE for bug with the moving indicator. Close MC - Open MC DOS NOT help. MC will always repeat next track.
I've tried to roll to few versions back - no change...
Please help, very annoying.

If ASIO mode works for your hardware, and you have ASIO drivers for your device, you should be using that mode.
Kernel Streaming isn't good except for in very special circumstances (basically Windows XP plus a non-ASIO capable hardware device) where the other options don't work:

UPDATE:
Same bug with ASIO today.
Do you need some other information?
-
I have the same issue. I don't know what triggers it but I have it on more than one machine with 100% different hardware and audio outputs config.. Still scratching my head on this one and still very annoying.

What audio hardware are you using? What source for the drivers? (Sorry if you explained this above already, but I missed it.)
I see now.
In ASIO mode, have you tried turning up the Buffering (towards "More skip resistant")?
Does WASAPI Event Style work?
And, have you checked the disk for errors? I can imagine disk read errors causing stuff like this...
No plugins that mess with the audio output (or read buffers) at all? Convolution settings in the DSP or anything?

Are you using single audio files that are an entire CD, with a CUE file in the folder that provides the track information ?
If so, that is a known problem, reported this weekend.
-
On my case yes but I'm almost sure I saw the same happen with multiple tracks albums but, like I said, I'm almost sure.

Good call.

I don't use any plugins. As for the files, mostly I use single FLAC (or APE, WV pack) with CUE sheet. I have several WD Black series hard drives, I'll check them but I don't think they have so much errors.
