Title: parametric EQ and crackling
Post by: v_erich on February 14, 2013, 01:11:38 am
Hi,
I use 18.0.129 here at work with headphones.
I have the prblem, that when I activate the parametric EQ for lowering bass and treble, I have constantly crackling in the music.
My system is Win7 Enterprise 64 Bit on an intel Quadcore with 8GB RAM.
Soundcard is an Phonic Firefly 302 over IEEE1394, output via ASIO. When using Kernel streaming its the same.
Without parametiric EQ or when using the graphic EQ everything is ok.

Any hints or is it a bug?

Thanks and Regards,
Erich

i dont know, are you sure you dont add some gain somewhere when using the parametric eq.. what are the settings you use?

I Have the same thing when I enable a low pass filters under parametric EQ, increasing buffer size reduces but doesn't eliminate the issue.

Hi,
no Gain, EQ only in the negative direction (rducing bass and treble).
No other DSP active.

I would start with optimizing win7 for audio playback:

http://www.focusrite.com/answerbase/en/article.php?id=1071 (http://www.focusrite.com/answerbase/en/article.php?id=1071)

then try to adjust ASIO buffer settings...

Also check your Latency with this free Latency checker:

Hi,
latency everything fine, Audio is good without parametric EQ, also with foobar.
Changing ASIO buffer - no change.

Global optimisation I cannot do, its my PC at work.

Erich

I suggest setting up different types of eq filters, see if you can narrow down what filters cause the popping effect, it could be just a particular filter type.
