Title: Have I screwed something up, or is this how it’s supposed to work?
Post by: apostos on February 23, 2013, 09:54:02 am
In ‘Standard View’
Select ‘Audio’ from tree (view - album thumbnails sorted alphanumerically)
Next select ‘Albums’ (same view, tree expands)
Then select ‘All Albums ‘ (view - albums are sorted by artist – tree still sorts alphanumerically)
Select ‘All Albums’ tab – There you have ‘List Style’, ‘Group By’, ‘Sort Inside Groups By’ & ‘Columns’ as choices.

Under ‘List Style’  ‘Details’ is selected
Under ‘Group By’  ‘Album’ is selected
Under ‘Sort Inside Groups By’   ‘Default’ is selected
Under Columns – Audio (the preset) is selected

In this view albums are being sorted by artist name and not by album name as I would expect. Selecting ‘Album’ from the ‘More (sort groups a –z)’ menu item under ‘Group By’ shows the expected result, albums sorted by name. If I then go back and select ‘Album’ from the ‘Group By’ menu list I am presented with a view sorted again by album artist.

I don’t believe I’ve customized the album view. Its set as ‘View As: Categories’. There’s only one entry ‘Album’ and it’s set as a Library field to sort by ‘Ascending’. I believe these are the default.

Now, have I screwed something up or is this how it’s supposed to work?

The stock "Album" Group By preset is magic.  It really groups and sorts by:

   Artist - Date - Album

It is a useful setting to provide a preset grouping that seems to work well for most cases.  You can use your own groupings by creating custom calculated fields.

Ah, more Media Centre magic ….

Thank you for taking the time to respond to this literal type.  :)
