I started JRiver and then something didn't work. How do I fix it ?
;D ;D
I'm amazed at the number of threads on this site that start like the above.
Okay that's a slight exaggeration. But it is still true that Grandmothers give you more technical details about their problems than a lot of posters here.
It would be understandable if these people had a generic, vanilla Dell laptop or a standard HP desktop.
But when you look at the hardware they mention, it is often stuff that most people don't know exists, and requires at least some technical skill just to setup.
However, they are not nerds, for while nerds are famous for being socially inept, they are also famous for boring you with lots of technical details - and the whole problem here is lack of technical details...

What version do you have?

Steady now. By "generic" and "vanilla" I'm assuming you meant "quality" and "reasonably priced" and by "standard HP desktop" you meant "tool of the devil".

I'm as-often amazed by the times when people come in and post those kinds of questions. We all either give the person grief, or ignore it. Jim comes in and either uses one of his classic stock-replies (Jim-isms? Sounds dirty) or takes a wild stab in the dark. Then, a few days pass and the person comes back and says "Thanks, Jim. That sorted it out."
And I'm thinking... Wha?!?!?

Like Pictionary... "That's no danged giraffe!"

Anyone that has worked a PC help desk knows this.
Typical call:
I was doing [something poorly described] and something flashed on my screen. Now I can't do [enter something totally unspecific and probably unrelated]. I need this fixed right now.
What error did you get?
I don't know, it went by so fast. [actually and error screen you have to click on to close].
