Title: Trouble with TV tuner.
Post by: Betelgeus on March 01, 2013, 03:26:45 pm
Hello, first time on the board. I have just purchased and installed MC18 but cannot get the tuner to play nice with MC. HDHomerun dual is recognized but scan shows no channels results. Never had a problem with WMC, very frustrating. Do I need to uninstall WMC in order to get it to work?

Thank's

Danny

Thank's for replying.

I tried all suggestions I could find posted. I am using atsc with a roof antennae and nothing else no luck so far.

Are you using the latest version of MC18?  Please update if not.  There were a couple of builds with TV scanning broken.

Believe so, have version #18.0.106

OK.  The bug I mentioned existed in builds 125 - 128.  106 does not have it.

What happens when you try scanning?  Please email me a log.  I will take a look at it on Monday.  I do have the same device and it works just fine.  So I am not sure what I can find.

Instructions on how to get log files can be found here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=52448.0

Email the logs to me, I am yaobing at jriver dot com

Thanks for the log.  I see in it that some channels came back as having strong signals, and thus should be valid channels.  When MC tried to retrieve the channel info on those, an error occurred.  The same thing does not happen on my computer.  So it is somewhat puzzling.  I will have to try some different things.  Stay tuned.

Hi Danny,

I made some changes in channel scanning and I hope it will make some positive impact on your channel scanning situation.  Please install the latest build available on MC18 board - http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=79027.msg536630#msg536630 and let me know how it works.

Thanks.

Nope, still not getting it.
Tried it with Windows Firewall turned off as well with no luck.
I was wondering, when I switch the HDHomerun Main Application setting to either JRiver Media Center or Other: ATSC/QAM, shouldn't it disable WMC from accessing the tuners?

It probably will not disable WMC.  Do you have a lot of scheduled recordings in WMC?  I do not think WMC will hold on to the tuner unless it is actively using it.

Yes, 68 shows set to record through 3/22.

But there has to be a time in a day when there is no recordings going on.  Try scanning for channels in MC when there is no recording going on in WMC.

I'm pretty sure that's how I did it every time. Didn't make sense to scan when the unit was in use.

Is your device connected to cable or antenna?

For digital antenna (ATSC) set main application to "JRiver Media Center".

Did you make sure that tuner is set to "digital antenna" in HDHomerun Setup program?

I just got it working! I went into Options-Startup and realized the Media Server was not set to start on Windows startup so I checked a box and rebooted and eureka we have TV.

Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it, I've been waiting for a program like this for a long time, and now I can finally get it all configured.

It's funny, now that I have the tuner working all I want to do is listen to some good music.

Thanks again!

Danny
