Title: Importing problems
Post by: jmrdc on March 11, 2013, 12:39:33 am
I'm having a problem with importing new songs, full albums, etc.  For instance, I ripped an album in iTunes and 5 of the 13 songs are missing.  Not sure how to articulate this better but it is a problem on many other albums that are in my library.  Some of the tracks appear to have, no better description, a cyrillic view.  Also, tracks that have a "problem" play on all my devices except MC18.

Take a look at the tags for "Artist" and "Album Artist" and read this topic:

The link you sent was dead  :'(

I also today noticed a pattern.  Some artists and song titles will look like this...

M;o;z;a;r;t; E;i;n;e;;K;l;e;n;e  etc...

Sounds like some sort of character encoding problem. What format are you ripping to?

I've also had the issue with tagging as jmdrc. It seems to randomly affect 1 or 2 tracks each time I restart MC. All my files are either aiff or dsf. Using build 151.

On those files with the problems, just as Weedos123, aiff and 151.

Side note - I could not be more ECSTATIC that DNLA and the PSA PWD are finally singing together!!!

Clarification, I'm not ripping in MC - these are library transfers from iTunes.

Do you still have this problem in 18.0.155?

Yep.  Still having problems in .155

Also, I'm getting multiple crashes in Mountain Lion 10.8.2 - attached - should I post this elsewhere?

Same thing in .156 - precursory look says it's only on classical artists/tracks

If it's totally repeatable, do you have a file you could send me? bob (at) jriver (dot) com. Thanks.

I too still get this with v156. Could have something to do with character sets as 1 song that always does it, is French and irrespective of the no of times i re-tag it. The track name has "Sene" in it and the last e has an acute accent on it.

Yes, if possible. The smallest one you've got that has the problem.

Am new to JR MC...

If I have all my music files saved on a NAS, can I point JR MC Mac vs to these files or do they have to be imported to the specific computer being used for playback?

Just point MC to the NAS when you import.  There's no need to copy the files locally.

Ok, thanks Matt.

Just to clarify, when you say point MC to the NAS when I import, does this mean that JR MC will import all the music files from the NAS and as a result going forward, will all the music files that were once on the NAS now reside on the computer used for playback?

The media files stay on the NAS.

Media Center has a database (stuff like filename, artist, album, etc.) that's used for browsing.  When the program needs the actual media file for playback, it just reads it from the NAS.
