Title: Different libraries, different setup?
Post by: ThierryNK on March 11, 2013, 02:11:08 am
Hi

When I setup a new library, all the previous setups are lost: All Audio layout for example, or DLNA or Gismo Layout.
Is there a way to start from another Library setup to make a new library? It is a bit painful to have to redo everything with each new library.

Al the best
Thierry

You can use backup and restore to duplicate an existing library into a new one, but bear in mind that this will duplicate the entire library including all the media! You will then have to delete all the entries from the new library.

Hi Thierry,

Just clone the libary you want, here are the steps:

File->Library->Library Manager....
Select your current library in the left pane (under "playing from [your lib]")
Then Tools->Clone Library....

This will give you the option to create an exact clone of your library retaining all settings, playlists, etc...

hope it helps,

cheers,

C.

Ah, didn't know about Clone, I guess that's a more straightforward way of doing it!

You will then have to delete all the entries from the new library.
This can be done by loading the library, then using Clear Library.  It will remove all the entries from MC's database for this library.

It might be best to test these functions first so you know what they do.

Also if you dont want your media to carry over but are concerned about the Views, you can Save and Restore Views too from the customize view dialog box.

Thanks all for your answers, very nice!

I missed the "save view" feature. Great for me.

For cloning libraries, I saw the option. But, it may not work for my setup.

I have a local library on JRiver.

I also have another UPNP multimedia server running on a Synology NAS.

What I want do to is to have a second library with the Synology UPNP server + my local library. I did not see any option to add another UPNP server to a local library. Adding a local library to an external UPNP server one is OK, but the other way round does not seem possible.

Best and kind regards.

Once you've created custom views and saved them you can copy those saved views over to another installation and restore them so you can hve the same views on each installation of MC. I am using a file sync utily myself to keep saved views in sync between my server and my clients (for their local libraries).
