I just installed MC 18.0146. Some questions:
1) There is no menu. Shouldn't there be a menu?
2) It cannot play MP3s? As there is no menu, I tried to open an MP3 in Finder, and MC says "Media Center 18 cannot open files in the "MP3 audio" format".
Seems like something is fundamentally wrong with my install?

What happens if you import your files and play from within MC?
What OS are you using?
-
Maybe I should first add that I had installed a slightly older MC18 build before. I think I had a menu with that one, but also could not play MP3s.
I tried double-clicking in the Playing Now pane, where I can choose a folder to import. All MP3s are greyed out (see image).
I am using OSX 10.8.2.

That's Finder, isn't it? I don't know what grayed out means on a Mac. Sorry. Read only?
Did you import the files into MC?
What happens if you look under Audio in MC?
-
This looks like an Open dialog from some application (I don't know which one). The dialog wants a Folder, not files, so the files are grey out.
Lots of folks use the Open dialag thinking it is the same as Finder.

That is the dialog you get when you want to import something inside MC and you then click on "Browse" to select the folder to import. Nothing fancy?
I tried to import, but it didn't work at first. By "greyed out" I meant that I cannot select the individual files. OK, I wasn't aware that I can only select a whole folder here and not a file. If I select a whole folder, I can import it and subsequently play the imported MP3s.
Some questions remain though:
1) Maybe my expectations are wrong? From my usage of MC on Windows, I expected that I can just drag a single MP3 onto the app window or open a single MP3 with MC and it just plays. Is that not possible on Mac?
2) I have no menu whatsoever, so I'm not sure how to do anything in the program. There is just "Media Center 18" on the top, where an application menu would normally be, with no menu entries. Is that the expected state at the moment or is this a bug?
-
1. I don't know whether this works yet.
2. There should be a menu available on the top bar of the program itself, and not where the Mac usually shows menu choices.

Duh, I can't believe I didn't notice the menu IN the program...
At any rate, the File > Open Media File function doesn't work for me, as I cannot select any media file in the file window that is shown. Maybe this will work later then.

Generally, the best way to import files into MC is to use the Auto-Import system. This is accessible under the Tools > Import menu.
