Sorry if this is obvious, I'm new to DLNA devices etc.
I'm wondering whether or not it is possible to "push" music/video to a DLNA device or do they generally always have to pull content from the server?
I found this when looking around, but couldn't really sort things out.
I guess the second question is, can MC be setup to use one of these media renderers as an output?
Digital Media Renderer
Digital Media Renderer products are similar to DMPs in that they render or play content received from a DMS or M-DMS. However, DMRs are unable to find content on the network, and must be set up by a Digital Media Controller (DMC or M-DMC). A combination DMP / DMR device can either find a DMS on its own or be controlled by an external DMC or M-DMC. Examples of DMRs include TVs, AV receivers and remote speakers for music.

It depends on the device, eg:
- MC can be a renderer, controller and server.
- Gismo can be a renderer and controller
So you can use Gizmo (controller) to tell one copy of MC to "push" content (server) to another (renderer)

So for example, I use Gizmo to browse info on my MC Server then have it "push" the content to my WD TV Live. I can also do this from the MC interface as well (have a look at the "Playing Now" and you will see what devices you can push content to.

jmone's description is correct. Here's more:

Thanks for all the pointers... time for me to do some reading and some playing.

Read carefully. DLNA devices suffer from wildly different implementations. Will a specific player work AND work the way you want (an equally hard question)?
Also look for feedback on the sound quality of a DLNA Player versus a USB connected Player.
