I doubt this is what you want but you could play a video in Zone 1 and a separate audio file in Zone 2.  Chances are you want to mux the additional audio track into the existing MKV file.

MPC-HC just allows you to select audio from a separate file, in the same way that players allow you to select subtitles from a separate .SRT file... so I'm wondering if MC18 can do likewise...

Not at this stage, only Subs.  I guess JR could add the feature if enough thought it was of interest.

In the very rare cases where it is needed, I can just use MPC-HC.  There are much more useful things to add, such as the "Play Entire Album" menu choice (which would save me hundreds of clicks per month).

After all, it should just be some code from "Locate Album" plus "Play"...

Do you mean like this in Std View? (just hover on an Album and you get a "Play" option)

No - The reason for the meaning "Play Entire Album" is when you have only one file from the album in your view, and you want to play the entire album

Suppose you do a Shuffle play and it plays a song and you say "Oh yeah, I love that album, I want to hear the whole album now."

There is a thread where many people expressed their desire for this feature (the thread go sidetracked in a discussion about converting SHN files):
