I stream to a DAC in my main audio system using JR as a DLNA server. I know it is not possible to apply DSP to the DAC using this setup. I was wondering if, down the line, this would be possible? I would love to be able to manipulate some of my worst sounding files the way I can in PC playback.
One other thing: In the Audio section of add or configure DLNA servers I have selected Always Convert and for encoder 24bit Uncompressed. Does this last setting upsample 16bit to 24bit or does it pad out 16bit with zeros and have no effect on the sound?

There are currently no plans to implement full DSP in DLNA.
The way I understand the process, when 16 bit files are "converted" to 24 bit the lowest 8 bits are zeroed since that's information a 16 bit sample doesn't contain.

Bit of an old thread but this is something which interests me as I get more and more invested in JRiver.
My PC is slow, intentionally so. It's an ion which I like because it is low power and I can leave it on all the time.
I was concerned about the "processing" required to play 16 bit files at 24 bit. It sounds like there isn't much to worry about there. However, it would be nice to specify sampling rate policies for the DLNA output. Most of my library is 44.1 but as I am purchasing more and more high-res files, I have music in my library that is 88.2, 96, 176.4, 192, etc.
Currently, in the JRiver DLNA implementation it's only possible to select one sample rate or native. Native is fine except for music that is sampled at a rate which is higher than my receiver can handle. I'd like to play my music at the native bitrate when possible but have music which is sampled at a rate above the spec of my receiver sampled down to the most logical rate. My thought is that such a setup would allow for the highest quality possible but with the lowest processing requirements.
I'm not complaining, so far I really like RJiver, but as I start to understand the power and flexibility of the program I would like to see that feature implemented...for those of us with low power computers or for those who want as little processing of the files as possible via DLNA.
