Title: Media network stopped being visible after switching to FiOS router
Post by: g3n3 on March 25, 2013, 08:00:25 pm
Hi, I have MC 18 installed on Windows 8. It was working fine and recognized both my blu-ray player and my NAS DLNA server.

However, I just had FiOS installed today, and they switched out my router. Now MC does not see those devices any more.

I know it must be related to the firewall, but I'm at a loss at what to do. I only want these devices to be visible on my LAN. Do I need to do some kind of port forwarding to get it to work? Thanks.

I have not played with a FIOS router, so don't know what settings they have.

If you had a modem feeding your old router, you can then have the FIOS router feed into you old router.  Your old router could keep its settings (getting it's IP address from the FIOS router) and all of your internal network devices would still talk though your old router.  Your old router would then serve as a firewall to keep out any FIOS prying eyes and keep your internal private network the same as it was before.

Thanks for the feedback. I found the solution on the Verizon forums when I searched for DLNA. In case any other MC18 user has a problem when they switch to FiOS, here is the solution (router = Actiontec MI424WR, firmware version 40.19.36):

1) Click on Advanced, then IPv6. Click on Enabled.
2) Use the "jump" to disable IGMP Proxy that is no longer accessible from the Advanced tab- https://192.168.1.1/index.cgi?active_page=6059

So far, so good!
