Title: Stability problems with Media Center 18.0.158 [solved]
Post by: hardyjr on April 02, 2013, 07:36:40 pm
I don't know if this topic has been discussed before and solutions found.

Version 18 build 158 of JR Media Center is stuttering like crazy on 2 separate HTPCs running windows 7 64 bit

Tried an uninstall/install of MC, tried all output modes, tried increasing buffer size, tried shutting down some windows processes, reinstalled all audio device drivers etc  but problem still persists.

The last resort will be to downgrade to an earlier version when Media Center worked like a charm.

Please help.

Thanks guys for all the help.
The stuttering even affects itunes but stops when MC is unistalled.

Freezing and crashing issues and DVD Playback stuttering Problems with Build 158.
My problems appear every now and then, not all the time.

System: Windows 7 x64.

What virus checker do you use?

Where are your files stored?

What playback device do you use?

What audio output mode are you using?  Directsound, etc.

A smaller buffer may be better.

I have installed MC 17,too.And still using it beside MC 18 until now.
Same settings as MC 18.Even some Zones of MC17 have the same settings as MC 18.
And zero problems with MC 17.That's the difference!

-----------------------------------------
What virus checker do you use? Kaspersky

Where are your files stored? Internal SATA Drives

What playback device do you use? 2 Soundcards:

-Asus Xonar Slim
-Onboard VIA VT1818 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC
  Supports : Jack-detection, Multi-streaming, Front Panel Jack-retasking
  Audio Feature :
Absolute Pitch 192kHz/ 24-bit True BD Lossless Sound
  ASUS Noise Filter
Optical S/PDIF out port(s) at back panel

What audio output mode are you using?
That's Zone specific. But makes no difference.Using Direct Sound and Wasapi - Event style.

Try uninstalling Kaspersky.

Try a single zone.  One sound device at a time.

What Asus sound filter?  Remove it if you can.

Take a look at this problem, just to see how odd things can get:

Is this only DVD playback?

Could you test some other type of videos?

As far as i can remember, only stuttering problems with dvd.
.mkv,.avi,.mp4,bdmv play fine.

Freezing problems,if autoimport is running in the background and I'm browsing/tagging files in the library.
But not always. When i try to click on mc when freezing, it's crashing.

Same library and settings in MC 17 is working on the same system without these problems.

Could you use Help > Logging and send a crash log to logs at jriver dot com?

Thanks.

Problem solved.
Downloaded DPC lateny checker to analyse audio/video dropouts.
I troubleshooted all running applications and services by performing a clean startup through msconfig.

Antivirus software etc removed.
System performing great now.

Thanks all
