Title: Upgrading from Media Jukebox 14 to Media Center 18 help
Post by: Soshanna on April 06, 2013, 02:26:58 pm
Hi!  I have been using Media Jukebox 14 for about a year now I guess.  I am getting into more of a audio freak-nerd mode and I want to upgrade to Media Center 18 for better sound quality in playback of some of the higher bit rates and all that good stuff.    ;D

I am not very computer literate other than being able to organize my music files with the best of the OCD' freaks out there that have all their music files tagged to perfection.....So I was wondering, after I download MC18, will it just replace MJ14?   or will it create another program called MC18 that I have to transfer all my music files to?

and if so what should I know, so I wont screw up any of my files.   Any other tips, information, suggestions from anyone who has done this    ?

You can safely install MC18. It installs itself into its own program folder and it has its own database as well. I do not know if it will try to import your MJ14 database. Anyway, if you allow MC18 to scan the folders where your mediafiles reside, it will populate its database.

Have a go at it  :)
You can still use MJ14, just not at the same time.

Yep u can use both programs at the same time (there's an option for to choose this) but it's not really you're intention
By the way u can import database from MJ in MC (i think) but it's better to rebuilt a database for you're collection so then u can safely uninstall MJ (or not it's you're choice).
You 'll love MC ;)

I went ahead and d/l'd the MC18 and it did give me an option to stop the import process of my library. It like gives you 45 secs or something to decide.  I will import as needed, and then delete what I dont need.  I know I will love MC!  Thanks guys!   8)
