Hello folks, I am missing a particular tag.
I have recently been using MediaMonkey and their Involved People tag.
I cannot find tag this in JRMC18.
Can you help please.
Thanks,
-
Did you create this field in MC and name it exactly the same as the raw tag?
-
Tools/Options/Library and Folders/manage Library Fields

Thanks chaps.
Sorry I am new with all this.
I understand the raw name is: 4.4 IPLS [#sec4.4 Involved people list]
I found it here:
http://id3.org/id3v2.3.0 (http://id3.org/id3v2.3.0)
In JRMC18 I have created a new field called Involved People.
Now what do I enter in the Manage Library Fields dialog box.
Thanks,
-
You will need to define a new field then, named IPLS. Define it as a List Field type.
You can change the Display Name of this field to Involved People.
Once defined, have MC reread the tags with Library Tools > Update Library (from tags).
-
Thanks MrC, it failed - I am obviously doing something wrong here.
Opened monkey.
Selected three artists to test.
Checked in monkey to ensure the field Involved People is populated - it is.
Closed monkey.
Opened JRMC18.
Add New Field=IPLS
Display=Involved People
Flags= Audio
Data Type=List (semicolon delimited)
Edit Type=List
Press Ok
Selected one of the three artists above.
Right Click, Library Tools > Update Library (from tags).
Query runs ok and confirms files updated (0 failures)
However nothing is displayed in the column Involved People.
Tried another view to make sure.
Also opened Tag panel on the left with a Show All Tags.
Repeated the above with remaining two chosen artists.
Same result. Nothing. Grrhh.
I dunno why...
-
If you would, with one of your imported files that has an Involved People tag, open the Tag Action Window, and click on the first line that states the file formatting information, duration and size. This will present a tag dump. Copy the information using the pulldown menu at the top left to this new windows header, and attach it to a reply here.
-
mp3
it says:
IPLS: <unknown data type>
MrC, Do you need to whole dump?
Flac
Another says:
INVOLVED PEOPLE = <Too Long To Display>
-
Ok, I did a little testing. It appears that MC's mp3 input plugin does not read or handle this tag.
A search in the forum reveals that there have been a few requests to handle it.
For FLAC and its Vobris comments, so long as a field named INVOLVEDPEOPLE (note: no space) exists, MC will read the contents of this field.
-
Ok, I did a little testing - me too ;)
I identified an artist with a short narrative on a Flac file, in the Monkey Involved People tag.
Located that artist and flac in MC and yes I got it to display the short narrative.
Although it will not display in the main view, neither in panes nor main body.
It will only display in the Tag Action Window.
It will only display a short narrative, else it complains INVOLVED PEOPLE = <Too Long To Display>
By its very nature this field tends to be a long one, coz it contains all the band members.
For example:
singer:Jon Anderson; drums:Bill Bruford; keyboards:Rick Wakeman; guitar:Steve Howe; bass:Tony Levin.
or
singer/guitar:Andrew Latimer; keyboards:Ton Scherpenzeel; bass:Colin Bass; drums:Paul Burgess; sax:Mel Collins; keyboards:Pete Bardens.
-
Display it as an expression forced to a list type:
[INVOLVEDPEOPLE]&datatype=[list]
-
Sorry MrC, I don't understand that.
Where/How do I enter an expression forced to a list type
-
In your panes view, replace the INVOLVEDPEOPLE pane column you added, with an expression column, using the expression above.
-
No joy.
In panes view I added expression column with:
Name=Involved People
Expression=
[INVOLVEDPEOPLE]&datatype=[lxxt] (that's list)
In the Tag Action Window the short narrative is displayed - but for flac only not mp3.
Still nothing is displayed in the columns - even for the short narrative.[/list]
-
As mentioned above, it doesn't appear that the mp3 input plugin supports reading this tag. So MC can't show a value for files with this tag.
Here's what I have for FLAC files. See attached.
-
Yes I am looking at just flac files.
I have checked everything I've done in case there is a discrepancy between your instruction and what I carried out. I can see no differences.
btw when I said
In the Tag Action Window the short narrative is displayed.
It is only after pressing the top row. The tag is not there in the Tag Action Window to begin with.
I do not get the list as shown in your image.
-
Ah, did you read the tag from the file:
Library Tools > Update Library (from tags)
?
-
Yes its a good thought. The right question to ask.
I have revisited all the instructions and verified them all one by one including the:
Library Tools > Update Library (from tags)
-
Ok, it is possible the file I made is different than the file you are using. If you can share a file via Dropbox or email, I can test it here and will delete it when done.
-
I received your test file. The actual tag inside the file is "INVOLVED PEOPLE" (includes the space). When I added this field to MC and Updated Library (from tags), my column:
[INVOLVED PEOPLE]&datatype=[list]
works just fine. See attached.
-
works just fine.
Yes it works just fine here too.
Ah! The Space; it makes all the difference.
MrC, thanks for all your help with this. Service above and beyond the call of duty.
:)
