Does anyone know why MJ duplicates an ID3 tag when a file is imported from the hard drive to the library? I had all y ID3 tags edited and once I imported my files from my hard drive to MJ, all of my ID3 tags were doubled. Is is possible to leave the ID3 tag alone when a file is being imported?

Are you running the latest version of v8? (bld 396). What did you use to do the tag edits?

Well, I am using MJ 8.0.394 I think that is the lastest version. I created my tags from scratch. When I downloaded the track, if the ID tag didn'd suit me, I would change it. I have almost 1700 tracks that were set up with clean ID3 tags. Have any ideas?

I just noticed you had 396. If that is the latest, will it be a big deal to switch?
-
No, just install 396 over 394. But that won't (or shouldn't) solve your problem. I think your other tag editor is doing something funky. MJ's great at tag editing, so I would use it instead. Try it on an unedited file (straight from Kazaa). I've NEVER seen this problem.

...all of my ID3 tags were doubled.
What exactly do you mean by doubled? Do you mean that each track appears twice in the library?

No. For example, you have a track and you create the ID3v1 tag. Once you import that track into your library, both ID3v1 and ID3v2 are created in MJ. If I use Winamp or a similiar program to view the ID3 info, both versions are listed.

That's because MJ is probably set by default to write/create v1 and v2 tags if one or the other is not present.
Go to Tools/Plug-in Manager/Input/MP3 Plugin/Configure and set whatever tag behaviour you want.
