Post by: bob on April 15, 2013, 04:45:39 pm
This is an alpha release of Media Center for Mac.  If you aren't comfortable with a few problems, please wait a few weeks.

Download:
http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v18/latest/MediaCenter180169.dmg

18.0.169 (4/15/2013)

1. NEW: When enabling Media Network, a wizard is shown that steps through starting the server, getting an Access Key, and selecting the best server for your renderer.
2. Changed: Consolidated the list of DLNA server presets and added a preset for Audiophile DACs.
3. Fixed: SSDP discovery (used by DLNA) was not working in some cases in builds 167 and 168.
4. Changed: DLNA options to be more descriptive of what's actually going on.

Code: [Select]
18.0.168 (4/12/2013)

1. Fixed: Dates in file lists were not taking daylight savings time into account.
2. Fixed: File modified date not getting set properly during tagging, causing auto-update to do more work than necessary.
3. Fixed: SSDP servers were not working properly in 18.0.167 so DLNA devices would not show up.

18.0.167 (4/11/2013)

1. Changed: Unused input and output streams on audio hardware are disabled, helping performance with multi-channel devices.
2. Fixed: Writing of ID3v2 tags that contained extended characters could write an incorrect tag value.

18.0.166 (4/10/2013)

1. Fixed: M4A / ALAC tagging reading and writing could be problematic if the 'Play files from memory' option was enabled.
2. Fixed: When bitstreaming DSD as DoP, the bitstream could fall out of DoP mode on pause or if there was a data shortfall.
3. Changed: Revised buffer filling strategy to always provide a full buffer to devices (more deterministic, and seems to work better with some devices).
4. Fixed: Some hardware could have a clicking sound during playback.
5. Fixed: 'Open URL..' was not working (i.e. radio streams).
6. Fixed: Durations were wrong when playing from Library Servers.

18.0.165 (4/8/2013)

1. Changed: Moved the timeout out a month.
2. Fixed: The core timer object could incorrectly return negative numbers, causing lots of weird problems like an unclickable tree, etc.
3. Changed: Added support for connecting to Library Servers that require authentication.

18.0.164 (4/5/2013)

1. Fixed: The dialog for customizing DLNA views was not working nicely.
2. NEW: The Add Library dialog now supports loading remote Library Server libraries.
3. Fixed: This build should fix a lot of seemingly random crashes caused by a bug in our event handling code.

18.0.163 (4/4/2013)

1. NEW: Auto-import watched folders are now working.

18.0.162 (4/3/2013)

1. Fixed: The program could crash after showing the summary at the end of an auto-import.
2. Changed: Revised buffer management for multi-channel devices that use an array of mono buffers (may solve click issues on these devices).
3. Fixed: Library tree browsing was not working properly with file location categories.

18.0.161 (4/2/2013)

1. Fixed: Tab, shift-Tab, F2, and up/down arrows work for navigating the list while doing tag editing.
2. Fixed: When a tooltip was covering a list item, the item could not be played or modified using the mouse.
3. Fixed: Library views that browse by file path were not working.

18.0.156 (3/25/2013)

1. Fixed: Memory leak with regard to auto-released system objects.
2. Fixed: Memory leak with cleanup of background threads.
3. Fixed: DSP Studio > Room Correction > Channel buttons were not working to switch channels.
4. Fixed: Sub-menu flyouts not hiding after moving to other menu items.
5. Fixed: Newly created smartlists could have a '/' in the name rather than going to the right playlist folder.
6. Faster: Improved user interface drawing efficiency and performance.

18.0.155 (3/22/2013)

1. Changed: Improved messaging when attempting to tag read-only files.
2. Fixed: The File > Open File... dialog was not allowing selection of files.
3. Faster: Improved the core threading engine so that background threads are much less resource intensive.
4. Fixed: Memory playback could work harder than necessary in some cases.

18.0.154 (3/21/2013)

1. Changed: The program now requires a license (after a 30 day free trial).
2. Fixed: Tagging of some formats was not working when the files were on a different volume than the system.

18.0.151 (3/15/2013)

1. Fixed: Lots of crashing from version 18.0.150
2. NEW: DLNA working as a server, controller and renderer. Note, you'll likely have to reset your settings if you didn't already in build 18.0.150, there are bad uuids in there. The easiest way to do this is to rename or remove the "~/Library/Application Support/J River/Media Center 18/Settings" either from a terminal window or the finder after unhiding the ~/Library directory.
3. NEW: WebRemote applications working (Gizmo, JRemote, MyRiver, etc)

18.0.150 (3/14/2013)

1. NEW: Added Convolution DSP (same 64-bit SSE3 accelerated engine used on Windows).
2. NEW: Media Network (DLNA, Library Server, JRemote, etc.) available in options (still a work in progress).
3. NEW: MP3 encoding added.
4. NEW: Added configurable 'Channel offset' to Options > Audio > Output mode settings to allow targeting channels starting at something other than 1 (useful with pro / studio devices).
5. NEW: Drag-n-drop mostly working (within program, out of program, but not yet into program).
6. NEW: Added support for DSD bitstreaming using DoP.
7. Changed: Switched the timeout to April 16.
8. NEW: Wake On Lan implemented on Mac.

18.0.146 (3/8/2013)

1. Changed: Added support for more audio hardware (Lynx Hilo, RME Fireface UC, etc.).
2. Changed: Double-click, escape, etc. work on the playback display to exit Display View.
3. Fixed: Using some tools like Analyze Audio and Get Cover Art could prevent the program from closing even if they were no longer running.

18.0.143 (3/5/2013)

1. Fixed: Removed printing options from menu as they are not available yet on Mac and could cause a crash.
2. Changed: Changed text and link on "Help -> Registration Info" pop-up to reflect timeout and no license needed.
3. Fixed: Using cmd-Q to exit the program would result in a crash.
4. Fixed: Program text was garbled in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean translations.

18.0.142 (2/28/2013)

1. Fixed: SACD ISO files were not importing.
2. Fixed: Several cover art issues.
3. NEW: Internet POST requests work (makes Last.fm, etc.).
4. Fixed: If a background thread showed a message box, it would lead to a hang.
5. NEW: File move, rename, copy dialog functional. Not recommended for large scale or critical file operations until more testing is done.
6. Fixed: Problems with support of 32 bit only OSX systems, e.g. playback of MP3 files.

18.0.139 (2/22/2013)

1. Fixed: Wrong options file was being used in the 138 build resulting in frequent crashes.

18.0.138 (2/22/2013)

1. NEW: Added support for Core Audio exclusive output in Options > Audio > Output mode settings (enabled by default).
2. Fixed: Memory playback was not working properly.
3. Fixed: Plugins were not working because working path was not being set, this caused playback to fail.

18.0.137 (2/21/2013)

1. Fixed: Audio format converter working.
2. Changed: Register dynamic libs on first run after install rather than every startup.

Ok so after fussing with the knobs, the music server is up.  But (there's always a but right?) it is skipping to the next track, seemingly at will.  Like every 30 seconds or so. This is happening whether I'm moving around in the program, or not, like while I'm typing this up…

The behavior is erratic and slow to respond to player commands.  And we are back to both the Ethernet 'player' and the usb 'player' both running at the same time. They are out of synch with each other, ie. independent players playing the same set of tracks (an album) but being 'controlled' separately. Well except that if I clear the player list in the "Player' it seems to kill the DAC player as well.  But not completely dead as in they both come back to life and then do the 30 second skip to the next track happy dance.

Also during the setup of the servers and establishing the link to my PWDII I noticed that 24bit uncompressed encoder was not an option.
Is this 'built into' the new 'Audiophile 24-bit DAC' DLNA server 'profile'?  Such that choosing the PCM 24 Bit is either the correct choice or is overridden?

Also the windows disappear all to easily seemingly at any change or button push.  And the rate of deterioration of being able to use and see to control the player to listen to music is measured in minutes.

10.6.8  x.x.169

Random crash.  Just playing music across airplay to an ATV.  Not doing anything new that has not worked many other times.  Crash info and log file attached.

Further to my report of program closing every time that I close the Option pages, first in build 167 but commented further in build 168 thread.

I have now loaded this build (169) and find that this still occurs but that it is only if I visit the Audio page. I can open options and make changes or just view any other page and the program is fine as long as I do not select the Audio page, if I do, regardless of whether on not I make changes the program closes on clicking OK.

Thanks
Peter

Plays fine for a few songs and then I get digital distortion.  If I quit and relaunch it plays fine again for a few songs and then the distortion returns.

Mac mini 2.5 GHz, OSX 10.8.3, 16gb RAM.

now seeing my DAC again through DLNA. Some erratic playback behaviour (as above).
But most notably, when playing webstreams, it's still choppy/hashed/bloppy...etc

OK, some of these issues have been around for a few builds, that affect the overall experience of using MC18. I'll ignore the features that don't seem to be working (e.g. "Get Cover Art from Internet" etc...)

1) Sometimes I get the stuttering, choppy playback (sometimes after making a setting change, sometimes not), but if I toggle between "Play from Memory" or Not, that seems to fix it---it is not consistent on which setting fixes the problem, just the change from one to another.

2) Often I have to re-load the Library when I first start MC18. It doesn't take much time, so it's not REALLY re-loading, but nothing plays until I do this.

3) Cannot "Minimize" the MC18 program---never in any of the Builds.

Build 169, Mountain Lion.

Thanks.

169 working both USB and DLNA w/ PSA PWD for two days now, no LAN dropouts 😄, JRemote working, best stability so far.  10.6.8 on Mini.  Great SQ too, now much better overall than eLyric.

Still getting crashes all over the place while tagging.

- using .169
- OSX 10.8.3
- Crashes while tagging.  Maybe more often while using custom library fields, maybe not.
- Tagging .mp3s and .m4as - have had multiple crashes on both.
- all local files.

- crash log: http://pastebin.com/MHd39a7u
- another: http://pastebin.com/cCeqdtS8
- another: http://pastebin.com/NzKBFvUC
- another: http://pastebin.com/MrKr00Nn
- another: http://pastebin.com/Tn6W1jPh

UPDATE: frequent crashes while updating a custom library field that I call "Collection" - as I looked it up to give you the details I found that it wasn't listed in user fields (?!)... I had imported my library from a windows machine and my user fields came along with it, and although I could show "collection" in my tagging window, maybe it didn't get created properly when I moved to MC for Mac?  In any case I have now created the field and I'll let you know how it goes...

UPDATE 2: Nope.  Still crashing.  http://pastebin.com/kTwAPSZ5 http://pastebin.com/UB45LA1Y http://pastebin.com/FTAXffvq http://pastebin.com/EZksZC6x http://pastebin.com/qL7dkct3

UPDATE 3: Tried a reboot.  Still crashing.  Is it worth mentioning that I am running MC from my SSD and my files are on my second internal hard drive?

UPDATE 4 - Next day: Back at it, still crashing all over the place while tagging.  I may be getting more crashes if I speed through tagging, not waiting for all the tags to be written before making a change to another field.  It seems that most crashes happen when I change fields that do not write to tags while it's still writing another change...

UPDATE 5: Very frequently crashes while adding a string containing square brackets "[Rock & Pop]" to a user-defined library-only field.  Clue?  Maybe?

FIGURED IT OUT!  - the whole problem was with my custom library field, "Collection."  Like I said when I imported my library from Windows "Collection" didn't come over properly.  I was able to modify this field and MC would remember my mods, but there wasn't a field named "collection" in the list under Tools/Options/Library.../Manage... So I made one.  Then I found that I had two library fields named "collection" that I could show while tagging, but only one under Tools/Options/Library.../Manage...  Some files had values in one of these, others in both.

So I made a new field, uncreatively named "collection_" and copied the values from each of the old fields to my new underscored collection.  Then I deleted the one "collection" field that showed up in the list, and left the other now (but I hide it now from my tagging window).  So far - about an hour in - not one crash.  Phew.  I was about to lose it.  :P

Let me know if you need any other info.  Thx.

Have been having general stability problems with the server when working from Mac itself or from remote control jremote running on iPad. Symptoms start with response speed to clicks and then a lock-up.

Subjectively better in last 3 builds but still always fails by 20 mins into a listening session.

We found a thread safety issue that might explain some of the crashes.

We were hoping to get an updated build out today, but didn't quite make it.  Hopefully Monday.

So i cannot access the view options (or any options for that matter) to go back to the standard skin.
Tried uninstalling and re-installing, but the new skin is back. Help please!

Try MC's settings for Media Keys.  Start a new thread if you need help.

If you are referring to the media key options under 'Options - General - Advanced - Media Keys - I tried all options and left it in 'automatic mode'.  Works fine on the PC side but not here.... at least for me.

Can you please explain how organize by "recent albums" on the left bar works? I cannot find any logic in how the albums are sorted by date.
I added 3 new albums and the dont show up on the top (or bottom) of the list.

I added 3 new albums and the dont show up on the top (or bottom) of the list.

I don't have this playlist/smartlist handy, so can't check definitively.   Generally, views inherit the properties from their parent views if not defined otherwise, and the parent view has a default sort definition (Playlists may contain lists that include a variety of media types).  The default value is actually "Default", which is media type specific.  Smartlists can have their own sort defined, and playlists are sorted on the sequence number in the playlist.  So, generally, sorting is weakly defined for any automatically generated playlist/smartlist.

You can set the sort order using the tab's Sort By pull down.  Select one or more sort keys.

I thought 169 was stable but last several days on USB it stops playing maybe once every 1-2 hours for no apparent reason, have to close MC or reboot PSA PWD to restart.  Also sometimes JRemote on iPad shows a file as playing but actually not on MC, ie no sound.  10.6.8 onMini.

This problem appears in my environment also with eLyric Music Manager with my PWD MKII. So maybe its a problem of the asynchronous USB interface of the PWD. ;-(

This version seem not play ALAC 24/192 (HD tracks download).
If I make 24/192 FLAC they play alright.

When trying to play the ALC 24/192 the program stalls and sometimes crashes (crash report is sent).

It may be, I have had on and off connection problems with the USB on my PWD, at various times with ELyric, PM and now MC.  But it had been working for a month until 169 so I posted.

Hi, i don't know if it is a clue , but while i was inspecting my preferences, mc collapsed while it was synchronizing in the background. I then disabled The automatic synchronizing in the background and since then it keeps running whitout any problems

So I do not suspect an asynchronous USB problem with psaudio new wave dac I am using.
