Title: New receiver. Do I need my Xonar?
Post by: Z0001 on April 22, 2013, 02:07:17 am
Hi

I am getting a new multi channel receiver. I will be sending it a digital signal prob hdmi with video or spidif. Is there benefit to keeping my Xonar Essence ST or can I just use onboard audio? Not quite sure what jobs each part of the system is doing and if the audio carmd is in fact doing anything if i use hdmi from my radeon video card. Would appreciate any guidance.

Thanks!

If you have a "modern" HDMI GPU then there is no need for the Xonar anymore.  Time to retire it!

That's great to know. It's a Radeon HD6870 about 2 years old. Simpler is better!

Thanks v much
