Hi guys –
Well, the act of connecting to a library server (Windows) is a LOT faster in .173, and the file starts playing immediately with no couple seconds of buffering, but it starts playing at around a minute into the song (though the timer shows 0:00). Is this called Intro-Skip Mode? :)

What file type? Do you have 173 on both sides?

MP3s. No, I do not. I will put .173 on the PC in a bit and check back in.
Thanks Jim.

That did the trick, thanks Jim.
I did not know the two versions had to be that closely in sync. I will check this first in the future.

I'm having exactly the same issue. Windows server to Mac client. Both are on version 174. I tried upgrading the server to .175, but the problem persisted.
In every case, the files are VBR MP3s, between 200-400kbs.

I have an issue with network playback just like the one described in this thread but it is Mac to Mac. My Windows side does not have this issue but then I am playing from the Mac to the PC, not the other way around.
With MP3s of any type the client starts at about :30 into the song. With AAC files I get a server error "Something went wrong with playback" message. AIFF files also do not play. I don't have any FLAC files.
I updated both the iMac server and the MacBook Pro client to Alpha 174 but the problem persists.
Specs:
JRiver MC 18 Alpha 174
iMac Intel Core Duo 2.4GHz
4GB RAM
Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion
Music is on an external drive connected by Firewire
Core Audio / built-in speakers Output for MacBook Pro
I'd submit logs as well if that will help.
