edit: solved with build 18.0.180
I did a screencast (http://youtu.be/z851wiD_jVI) to illustrate what is happening for me. Red numbers in this post show where to find a mentioned thing in the video. The bug was first reported by Transilium here (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=79811.msg542713#msg542713) for build 18.0.166.
Here is what happens:
In some cases all kind of display view stops working (except Video playback).
For me it happens this way:
- change to display view in fullscreen
- move the mouse -> control bar appears
- move the mouse on top to any control item (eg. Play, Pause, Volume) [0:19]
- Wait a few seconds [0:20-0:21]
- display freezes, Playback continues [0:22-0:33]
It doesn't matter, which kind of visualization I use. Happens for Cover View, 3D, Viz Studio and Track Info. I'm not sure, but I guess it is connected to Quickinfos because it only results in a complete freeze when I would expect a quickinfo. If the cursor hovers eg. the info display [0:07-0:08], the view freezes but continues right after the mouse moves again [0:09].
Leaving the Display view [0:33] and returning again makes everything work fine again [0:39]
Changing popup transparency settings doesn't effect this.
Matt and JimH stated, they cannot reproduce the bug. I'll do further investigations when I get the time. Perhaps anybody having the same issue can leave a short message here?!
-
Like I said, we haven't been able to reproduce this one.
Does Noire work any better? Do you have a second PC you could try?
If you use no visualization (just Cover Art), do the bars still freeze?
-
Don't have much time right now, please excuse my short answers!
Does Noire work any better?
No.
Do you have a second PC you could try?
Yes, as soon as I get the time...
If you use no visualization (just Cover Art), do the bars still freeze?
Strange thing: the bars don't freeze anymore (progress bar keeps on moving), only the display view itself. Before, the bars were freezing even with cover art. The cover art now still freezes on track change.
If transparency is disabled the playbar doesn't appear after it disappears the first time.
If I'm not in fullscreen mode, everything works fine.
-
This is happening on my system too, but only the fullscreen visualization stops, the one in the status window(?) keeps playing.
I've tried changing a number of different settings (quality etc.) and nothing seems to make a difference.
-
Same for me.
I'm using MC on a Lenovo Thinkpad T520. Intel i7, Intel HD 3000 and Nvidia NVS 4200M. Windows 8 64bit. Anything similar to you?
-
The only things in common are that I'm using an Nvidia graphics card (GTX570) and on Windows 8. (64-bit)
-
Ha, it's in your signature :) Should have opened my eyes :o
-
I reactivated my old desktop PC with MC17, installed MC18 and gave it a try. MC18 imported some settings from my old MC17 installation which is quite different from my MC18 setup I use on my main system: custom resources and custom art are not modified, only standard skins.
The same happens there.
It's Win7 32bit on an Intel Core2Duo with Nvidia Graphics.
For testing I successfully downgraded the graphics driver on my main system with no effect.

Hi,
I am seeing a similar problem with fullscreen video, if I pause a video I can no longer restart, I have to exit video and play again. It occurs if the popup is visible. If I pause without the popup showing I can then restart no problem. If I disable popup transparency the problem remains the same.
Windows 7, Nvidia GT550M, Intel I5 ROHQ MC 18 Build 177
-
I wonder if this is related?
I'm seeing an issue where if I play with the Volume control (in the top scrub bar with the mouse) while the OSD is currently showing (after a seek, for example), then both the OSD and the top mouse scrub bar get "stuck" visible until I stop and restart playback. They never time out.
Playback is not impacted, and a stop/restart of the file fixes it.
I have an AMD GPU though, which would explain the different behavior. But, it seems like it could be related, since the OP indicated it was triggered by using the mouse controls.

Since the last two builds, I have a problem which is quite similar to what Glynor describes.
To reproduce:
- play a video in fullscreen mode
- move the mouse to the top, the toolbar appears
- move the mouse to the volume control, turn the mouse wheel to adjust the volume
- a tooltip appears, showing the current volume
- now move the mouse away from the toolbar, the toolbar should disapear
=> for me, the toolbar stays visible as well as the OSD, they never disapear
=> also, the toolbar becomes unresponsive, especially the pause button
=> if I press the stop button, the fullscreen view closes, but the video keeps playing (most of the times)
I am on Windows 7 btw

To reproduce:
Sounds like the same problem. I can reproduce it in a variety of ways, but it seems to be triggered by the interaction with the mouse controls when the OSD is visible. If I wasn't clear, yes, both the OSD and the scrub bar up top get stuck visible, forever.
=> also, the toolbar becomes unresponsive, especially the pause button
I forgot to mention that, but yes, same here.
=> if I press the stop button, the fullscreen view closes, but the video keeps playing (most of the times)
I haven't seen this, though. Stop (via keyboard shortcuts or MCC commands or whatever, I hide the stop mouse button) still works right, and fixes the issue.
I should also mention, this is relatively recent for me, but it has been happening a while (though I've been on betas, so maybe it only went "public" recently). Sorry I didn't report it before. Always happened when I was busy, tired, or drunk or something.
-
We may have two different things here. The bug I described is around with MC since the release of 18.0.166 at least. Yours seems to be younger.
P.S.
[...] Sorry I didn't report it before. Always happened when I was busy, tired, or drunk or something.
I very often find bugs (or just questions) during my ballroom lessons. I hope, there is no need to excuse, when we don't always find the time to report immediately ;)

I'm really not sure when it started, unfortunately. A week or two? Maybe three? Maybe less?

We're investigating.

I was able to reproduce this using Kai's method from above.
I'm seeing Windows get stuck in a redraw loop. I can't explain why, but calling EndPaint(...) on a transparent window is causing it to get marked for a redraw again. It also doesn't make sense to me that this is a new behavior. It could be related to some other change (tooltips, etc.) but I can't figure out what.
Regardless, we're switching to the more advanced drawing method for the transparent windows here. It should be a good change anyway. The only trick is to figure out the best way to handle the rendering of the spectrum bars when in transparent mode, because we use a slightly unconventional drawing method for them (render straight to screen from a background thread). For now, we'll probably just disable the spectrum bars in fullscreen.
Thanks for everyone's help on this one.
-
we'll probably just disable the spectrum bars in fullscreen.
This fixed the issue for me in 18.0.177. Should have tried that :-X
In 18.0.178 Visualizations are not working any more! The display doesn't change. It starts with the first frame and stays there. Playerbar updates nicely. Enabling/Disabling transparency or spectrum bars doesn't help :( Cover Art, Track Info and 3D Visualizations are working.
I'm back to 18.0.177. Hope this will not be the end of standard visualizations :o

Next build:
Fixed: Some animated areas of the program like 2D visualizations were not redrawing properly in build 178.
We consolidated our redrawing code for all platforms (Windows has several methods) and an ambiguous corner case of saying "redraw a rectangle of 0,0,0,0" vs "redraw a NULL rectangle" was causing problems here. Sorry.
-
Sorry.
Nevermind ;) No big deal to stick with 177 for a while. Thanks for fixing it!!
-
Just updated, my problem is fixed now.
Thanks!
(btw: I always had the impression that it had something to do with tooltips. Problems only occured when tooltips were shown. Anyhow, it's gone now.)
-
Hi,
Build 178 has cured my problem with pausing full screen video when tooltips were showing. Many thanks for the quick fix.
-
Everything is running again :) Thanks!
Just a little note: visualization has still a lack when control bar is displayed. When the control bar is displayed it takes round about 2 seconds, then displays freezes for ~2 seconds. Then everything normal.
Just another little note: after appearing and disappearing of the control bar the first time in fullscreen, I have to click somewhere to make the control bar appear again. Moving the mouse to the top doesn't make it appear again.
I have to see, if it keeps being a little note or if it'll be a real bug for my use. I'll report back after a few days of use...
