Title: Please include .3ga audio files. (Same as .3gp)
Post by: richardc on May 06, 2013, 06:42:02 pm
Samsung mobile phones record audio to ".3ga" files.  These audio files already play perfectly well in Media Centre if the extensions are first changed to ".3gp".  It would be a great convenience if MC recognised the ".3ga" extension without the need to rename them. Please add this small feature to the next release, as it would save time and bother.

Is it right that .3ga are always just AAC audio files?

I renamed a couple samples I found to .aac and they imported and played fine using our native AAC plugin.

If this is the case, we'll treat them just like AAC.  If they're sometimes more complex, we'll push them through Directshow / LAV for decoding.

if 3ga is just like 3gp, then its actually a MOV file, and not pure AAC.

You're right (as usual).  Luckily our AAC plugin does AAC and MP4.

So next build:
Changed: 3GA files are treated like AAC / MP4 audio files, so they can import, play, and tag.

You can probably add .M4R files too, which I think are just AAC audio as well. (at least iTunes doesn't mind when you just send it a renamed M4A file to use as a ringtone)
If you wanted to, that is. I doubt I would use MC for them, I just noticed that they didn't play.
