I got some new music so started up MC18 to fix the tags how I like them. It wanted to update when I started it, so I let it update to 18.0.175.
The first album I went to add had "(US Version)" after the album name in the tags, so I went to the Action Window and tried to delete the out of the album name tag and MC crashed. I restarted and tried to change the album name in lots of different ways and it kept crashing. I tried to update the album name of an older album and it crashed. I tried to update other tags on other songs and it crashed. I can't change any tags without MC crashing!
I backed up my library and completely uninstalled MC18.0.175 and installed MC18.0.177 and let it rebuild the library and tried to update tags and it crashed.
I'm at a loss now, any ideas how to get MC to let me use it again because it is the digital equivalent of a paperweight to me now.

Sorry about the problem.
We're not hearing a lot of this. Is it only certain files?
If so, could you provide a sample to logs (at) jriver (dot) com?
Thanks.

Unfortunately it is happening on every file that I try to tag now. I can change tags from a drop-down list, but as soon as I try to type into a tag it crashes on the first character I type (or delete).
I'm having a bit of deja vu, I think I encountered this recently but unfortunately I can't remember what I did to resolve it. I'll try rebooting and anything else that I can think of once I get to a place in my work where I can shut down.

Are you recording TV at the same time? There is a known problem with it.
-
It sounds like it might be the edit control, but would you be willing to send a sample file and library backup anyway? Maybe we'll get lucky and be able to reproduce and then fix it.
Thanks for your help.

I only use MC for music, I'm not recording anything.
I'll try to find a short music file and send it with a copy of my library.

Finally reached a stopping point in my work where I could shut down. After a reboot, the problem appears to have gone away.
Now that I've thought about it a bit, I seem to recall that the last time this happened, it cleared up after I closed Dexpot, so there might be an incompatibility there. I can confirm if I see it happen again if anyone cares...

Please. We like to understand mysteries like these.
Thanks.

The problem did come back and closing Dexpot did clear it up without needing to reboot or anything else. I seem to recall the first time I tracked it to Dexpot that Dexpot was doing something weird that made me draw the connection. This time I didn't see anything odd out of Dexpot, if Dexpot hadn't asked me to update when I rebooted so that it triggered a memory, it probably never would have occurred to me.
Anyways, not a huge deal and I can live with it. If you guys happen to track it down and fix it, even better :)
Thanks for the great support.

We'll try Dexpot and see if we can reproduce it. Hopefully we'll learn something.
It might be worth asking the Dexpot guys as well.

I installed Dexpot but haven't been able to see a crash when editing. Could you provide a step-by-step?
Thanks.
