Title: Blue Screen on stable version 175 while playing SACD-R
Post by: better on May 09, 2013, 09:12:25 pm
Platform: Windows 7
Nuforce HDP with lps-2u-192k linear power with 192k usb driver.
Playing SACD ISO file
Blue screen every time.

Re-installed 175 and results are the same.

Bluescreens usually indicate hardware-related issues, rather than software related ones - so perhaps Media Center is sending the DAC a signal it doesn't like, and the DAC's failure state is bluescreening the system.

The first thing I would do is update to 18.0.180 (http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v18/latest/MediaCenter180180.exe).

If that doesn't fix it:
1. Can you play other audio files through the DAC normally without crashing?
2. What Audio Output Mode (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Audio_Output_Modes#Overview) are you using? ASIO? WASAPI? Kernel Streaming? If there is no native ASIO driver for the device, WASAPI Event is generally recommended.
3. What Output Format (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Audio_Setup#Output_Format) are you using with SACDs? Are you trying to Bitstream (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/DSD_Format#Bitstreaming) to a DAC that doesn't support it? 24-bit, 192kHz PCM?
If other audio files work without crashing, try reducing the sample rate and/or bit-depth output and see if it still crashes when playing the SACDs.

It used to play fine without any problem with version before 175 (forgot which version). I'll try to update it to 180 tomorrow in the office and see what happens.

Audio mode: WASAPI
File format: SACD ISO
Nuforce HDP with lps-2u-192k linear power with 192k usb driver cannot handle DSD, therefore I use the DSP to convert the format to 176.4khz / 24bit.

It is very terrible to blue screen again and again ....

Check if there is a minidump file in C:\Windows\Minidump.

Upload it on osronline.com and you can check the analysis it usually shows the offending module or driver that caused the STOP error. If you wish, you can paste it here and someone here can comment on it.
