Title: sound card or usb to spdif converter that will wake from sleep ok
Post by: fobos8 on May 11, 2013, 02:07:06 pm
Hi all

My setup is that I have the ESI Juli@ soundcard connected via spdif to a set of AVI ADM 9.1 speakers  http://www.avihifi.co.uk/adm9.html (http://www.avihifi.co.uk/adm9.html) which have an onboard DAC. The sound quality improvement from using the Juli@ card is terrific. As I'm not using its DAC I guess I'm just experience the benefits of its low jitter clock.

Its a real shame but I don't want to use this card any more because it isn't reliable at functioning when you resume windows from sleep mode. It only works about 60% of the time. ESI state that sleep and hibernate are not supported and I cannot find any way to resolve this.

So......... I'd like to purchase an alternative card/box that will give me the equivalent sound quality or better of the Juli@ card but that will will work when windows resumes from sleep mode.

What are my options? As I'm not using a soundcard's DAC or ADC do I just get and external USB to spdif converter with a really good low jitter clock?

My other requirement is that I'd like a unit that allows me to control the latency/buffer.

Thanks in advance, Andrew

My set up doesn't have that issue.

However, if I did have the challenge confronting you, I'd check here as one port of call:

You'll still have to research the details but it may offer some joy.
