I've got some feedback that others (I promised to keep Fitbrit's name out of this!) are also keen on contributing to some bribes and corruption for my proposal (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=75421.0), but it seems that the JRiver folk may be above such crude attempts to pervert the course of development!
So....I've got my thinking cap on..... Muffins don't work, BD's don't work.... tried nagging, pleading, even what passes for logic for me..... Then it struck me! Given the Omaha Steaks poll of the year, I've think I've tracked down the perfect enticement (well for Jim)... Oz Chooks! Like MC these "egg factories" just keep on giving!
I have found a mob that will ship 15 Australorp chicks to JR... I was about to place the order but I thought I'd better check first as I'm not 100% sure if they would be a gift or a curse! :-X I know that Jim has some land but for all I know Matt lives in an apartment and they would make a such a terrible mess.... but the evil side of me say press "buy now" anyway ;D
Black Australorp Chickens
A champion egg-laying chicken breed, the Black Australorp was introduced to the United States around the 1920s. The Australorp was originally developed in Australia from the Orpington Chicken to create a breed with a higher quality egg production without sacrificing too much size and meat quality. This breed is now a competitive contender for one of the most popular "backyard chicken" breeds as well as the most productive egg laying breed.

We have the perfect chicken house...

But we would need a Chicken Master or Mistress. Do you have any available? They would need to be around 10 or 12 years old, and not eat too much.
-
They could be Cockerels yet ;D

-
Nathan,
We're putting your home phone number in the next newsletter, just to say thanks for all of your ideas.
Jim

I'm pretty sure they don't let us receive calls from outside

I did like the blackmail angle. Kinda Unique form however ;D
-
When a simple "thanks for all the hard work JR has done with MC" over the years is just not enough...
Thank you for your order..., placed 05/21/2013
;D
-
Should not be too long to wait...
-
Is this really happening? :o

Mate, once an Ozzie chook is on the loose, there's no telling where reality will end up.
Kudos points to jmone.. coo-ee cobber!

Yup they have shipped ;D
-
Yup they have shipped ;D
We've ordered a puppy for Nathan, just to say thanks. They were out of pythons.
-
It is a very generous gesture from my Aussie colleague, Jmone. It's not like we've got chickens just lying around here in Oz.....
-

Reminds me of that thread you posted of the gift those two guys traded every year..... now that got out of hand!
-
In a few years you'll be sending elephants and whales across!
-
Here is the tracking link.... https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction_input?origTrackNum=9405515901044234921666
Should arrive Wed!
-
I always knew Aussies were nuts but you lead them all ;D.
Jim needs to film their arrival and release. And name them of course, they need a name. You didn't happen to send as many as there are developers, did you? Not that I want to give any ideas but Jim really is a nice name ... even for a chicken ;D.
-
Yup - Our chooks all have names like Butter, Noodle, etc....
I should also say to Jim that thanks for the kind offer of puppies and snakes but we already have plenty of both. We had to call in the local wildlife service to deal with a 6 foot red belly black snake that got tangled in the chook netting last year but it got away.... so is still lurking somewhere in the back yard!
-

Like that's going to save you once Jim had to deal with the mess you're about to cause ;D
-
So, that happened:

There is something about chooks - look at those smiles!
-
There is something about chooks - look at those smiles!
Yeah but do those smiles have thoughts of "let's get these chicks fattened up and bring on Sunday dinner" behind them? Or is it the joy of knowing that shop bought eggs will soon be a thing of the past?
Well done jmone for bringing some chook inspired joy to the MC engine room.
-
We were thinking of how to get even.
So.... thanks ... for now.
This is not over.
-
My wife thinks you look really sweet but after reading your last post looked a bit worried and said "please be nice"!
-
Here are more pictures (http://pix01.com/i21%40WB0C). Veronique put the shipping box in the bigger cardboard box to open it. Matt is holding a chick. The chicks spent the day in Veronique's Gallery (http://www.veroniquewantz.com). I brought them home at the end of the day. They're in the laundry room now, peeping.
Nathan,
Thank you. It's a big responsibility you gave us, but it was a very kind thing to do. We had a lot of laughs today, thanks to you.
Jim
-
Wow... I thought this was just a joke... :o

No worries Jmone, could this man be anything else ?
....He wears it well, don't you think ?? ;D
-
Here's me:
Wow I was told Matt was devilshly handsome but this is ridiculous ! ;D
.....leave that poor chick alone,,,
-
John, a small favour, forget about those chicks and could you possibly ask your twin brother if he would get Ricky Gervais' autograph for me ? ;D
-
Hilarious.
Until I saw the pictures I expected a box of stuffed animals to arrive. I really did not expect real livestock :D.
-

Jim
It always amazes me how such small creatures brings smiles like this and washes away the day to day hassles of modern life (and I truly hope the responsibility does not turn into a burden.... though one of the chickens peeping will one day turn into crowing!). Even Matt (who has been very quiet on this topic) looked like he was having a bonding moment!
-

No fowl play?
-
Hi Jim, do you and the chooks survive the weekend?
-
Nine are fat and happy.
Five went for a trip to a friend's place.
Two died on day 2 and day 3.
We're still thinking about how to repay you. We want it to be memorable.
-
No rush (I'm counting on it all fading with time) ;D Have you worked out which one is the cockerel?
-
He has a gleam in his eye.

Photographic proof that Jim can still pick up chicks at his age.

I don't get it.
-
Mmmm... rotisserie chicken.
I remember when I was a kid going to the hen house to get eggs for breakfast, I think there was like 24 chickens and one rooster.
some of them were not so nice, and would peck at your hand when you tried to get there eggs.
-
Is that when you got into cooking? ;D
-
no I got into cooking when my wife started to become disabled, it is hard for her to stand for long periods. she don't work anymore because of it, I wish some Dr. could fix her but she has seen about 6 Dr's who say they can't help her. they will not operate again because her skin is too thin now.
Getting old is not fun.
Tonight I made baked Turkey wings on top of a bed of sliced potatoes, and draped with thick cut peppered bacon.
Tomorrow I am going to make hamburgers using Tomatoes out of my garden, We have had three dinners with BLT's dang home grown tomatoes are so good compared to the green house tomatoes the stores sell.
-
Hi Jim - How are you holding up and how are the chooks going (lost many more or adopted them out?)
-
dang home grown tomatoes are so good compared to the green house tomatoes the stores sell.
Completely agree.
Used to say I didn't really like tomatoes.
It was only that I'd never had a good one. Now I say, I'm pretty darn particular about them.
-
Two died on day 2 and day 3.
Send them back for a full refund. Clearly defective.
We're still thinking about how to repay you. We want it to be memorable.
Wait 2 weeks before sending them back. Include one dead, partially eaten python.
-
Include one dead, partially eaten python.
I do that with every amazon return.
-
We lost two chooks overnight to a fox. .... so this afternoon was spend adding some more chook mesh around the sides of the tractor (In the rain - we have a big storm coming in apparently).
-
Another who has mused chook losses (http://www.mitzenmacher.net/blog/?p=83).
-
I visited the chooks today. It's not pretty. But it's interesting...

Teen age chooks. On the prowl.
-
I just drooled on myself.
-
They are looking good. I wonder which one is the Rooster? ;)
-
FYI - My wife says you have a bit to go before they start to lay.
-
I gave a few to a friend and she says they started laying "small" eggs last week. She is an optimist though.
-
We have one "teenager" that is also laying little eggs at the moment - so could be about right.
-
Our chooks are successful. On Christmas morning, I saw my ex-wife, who has been raising the chooks since July. She gave me some of the first eggs (the brown ones):

and this morning, I made breakfast from three small ones:

They look like they'd do really well poached.
Nice work.
-

+1
It also looks like someone knew how to cook an egg, which is rare enough!
