Title: how to display zones on specific monitors
Post by: rjm on May 23, 2013, 08:02:33 pm
I have 2 zones and 2 monitors.

I would like Display View & Theater View for zone A to always display on monitor 1, and Display View & Theater View for zone B to always display on monitor 2.

How do I set this up so it always works as expected?

Every time I try to figure this out on my own I get a headache. I get it sort of working, then I do something a week later and it breaks and I have to start over by fumbling around until it starts working again.

Some assistance would be much appreciated.

I take it this may not be possible with current features...

Let me explain my application in the hope that there is either a different way to achieve my goal, or perhaps JRiver will consider a new option.

My computer has a high quality monitor with good speakers. In addition, my computer is connected via HDMI to a large screen TV also with good speakers. Depending on my mood and whether I have any guests I choose to watch video on my main monitor or my television.

When I play a video I would like a reliable method of directing it to either my main monitor or my TV. Can someone please suggest the best way to achieve this?

You can't do it quite that way.

Search for my posts on Detached Displays.  They work per-Zone, and should solve your core problem (if you're mostly interested in directing fullscreen playback per zone).

You can't set a location (monitor) for Standard or Theater Views per-zone, only Globally.  You can only have one "copy" of those views open per-instance of MC.

Thanks Glynor. I was afraid that detached displays may be the only method, and yes full screen playback is my objective.

Matt, it seems very odd that a zone cannot be associated with an output device which would be a very natural and useful application for zones. Is this an oversight or intentional?

I have hopes that we will get video zones by 2014. They're just hopes.

Hi

I have two Zones, "Lounge" and "Kitchen", and two monitors, 0 and 1.
My MC config is not quite up to "Husband-Free Standard".

My default monitor is 0 and is used by "Lounge" Zone.
I manually Detach the Kitchen display and drag it to monitor 1 and then Maximize.
However sometimes monitor 1 switches off and the detached display then appears over the top of monitor 0 causing merry hell.

How do I get the display from "Lounge" always playing on 0, and the display from "Kitchen" always maximized on 1 ?
Is there a setting somewhere, or a commandline option ?

Thanks

David
