If I have a 24 bit DAC, shouldn't MC using ASIO be outputting 24 bit?
-
Your ASIO driver requests a buffer format and bitdepth (ie. it's not controlled by us).
Some Cmedia (and possibly other) drivers allow picking a bitdepth in the driver control panel. Personally I think this is silly, since the driver should always request the format that most closely matches the input of the DAC.
-
I have specified in control panel > sound > headphone rig (what I renamed the particular output device to) > advanced to use 24/192. But MC says output is 16 bit.
-
If I switch to WASAPI, it outputs to 24 bit (padded)... Of course, at the moment WASAPI is not working properly, getting that flutter/ticking sound... But I'd rather be using ASIO anyways if possible, just not sure why it isn't outputting correctly.
-
The ASIO driver control panel I'm talking about is normally accessed with:
Options > Audio > ASIO > Output mode settings... > Open Driver Control Panel...
Or through a system tray icon.
-
Only settings I can find are in the below screenshot. I don't have any other place in CP, nor a Systray icon.
Now I am wondering if I am missing something... WASAPI seems to output properly, but like said, currently has the flutter issue.
-
My bad, here is what I have in MC options..
Note though, the ASIO Control Panel dropdowns are greyed out, and do not allow a selection.
-
Disregard, I'm an idiot... You must stop playing music to change ASIO control panel settings.. I am all set now!
Thanks for the help Matt, as always you rock!
