Back some years ago it appears that JRiver used a less frequent broadcasting approach.
At the moment it appears to be every minute again. Is there any reason?
14.0.139 (02/04/2010)
9. Changed: Revised the DLNA broadcasting of alive notifications to every 5 minutes instead of every minute. (please report if PS3 seems sluggish to find servers)

Is it causing a problem? It shouldn't. The data is small enough it shouldn't affect your network or performance at all.

Hi Jim,
You are probably right, there are no network performance issues I am aware of.
It more than JRiver seems the most eager DLNA device with very frequent network updates.
It probably means that if the server is the only network application running, then it is unlikely that your NIC can use a low power mode, as it is in constant use, rather than updating every 5-10 mins.
