Evanescence (Lithium).... this one is a stretch for "rock"
Blondie (Call Me)

/me is listeng to: 'Rooms on Fire' by 'Stevie Nicks' from the album 'Driving Rock Ballads' [Duration: 4:21 | 166 kbps mp3 (5.2 MB) | rated 5/5 | played 18 times ~ last played 327.3 days ago (09/07/12)
/me is listeng to: 'Love Is a Battlefield' by 'Pat Benatar' from the album 'Assorted Tracks' [Duration: 5:23 | 192 kbps mp3 (7.5 MB) | rated 4/5 | played 7 times ~ last played 3.01 years ago (31/05/10)
"Put another dime in the jukebox, baby" Love it :)
With that list, you gotta be the wrong side of 45 along with me ;)
How about a bit of Wendy James..../me is listeng to: 'Baby I Don't Care' by 'Transvision Vamp' from the album 'Velveteen' [Duration: 4:39 | 1007 kbps flac (33.6 MB) | rated 4/5 | played 31 times ~ last played 16.4 days ago (16/05/13)
Heavily panned, but I really like this album :-| (I paid to see Transvision Vamp live back then... was mediocre, but always worth a chuckle admitting I was there)
-
What? No Pretenders, Heart or PJ Harvey?
-
yes to all +
P!nk - Fingers / Humble Neighborhoods / Get The Party Started and Steve Nicks - Sourcerer / Planets Of The Universe
-
Thanks - added a bunch of these but I'm a bit torn with the artists like P!nk, Gaga, etc.... may slap together a different Playlist for these "Pop Chicks" / "Modern Rock Chicks?"
-
All of this chick talk makes me nervous.

All of this chick talk makes me nervous.
I just laughed out loud! (Only a few days to go)
-
Oh crap.
-
When does the intern start?
-
Adam can program, so he's too valuable. Matt's in charge now, so he won't do it. I'm afraid it's going to be me. I plan to turn them loose in the back of the building and hope for the best.
-
I'd add:
- Pat Benatar - "Hit Me With Your Best Shot"
- Suzi Quattro - "Devil Gate Drive" or "Can the Can" (your choice)
- Courtney Love (w/- Hole) - "Celebrity Skin"
- Wendy James (w/- Transvision Vamp) - "I Want Your Love"
OK .. Wendy James might be on the edge but you've gotta love the line, "I don't want your money honey, I want your love". Can't get much more rock chick than that .. ;D
-
So I've now got:
You Oughta Know (Alanis Morissette)
Black Velvet (Alannah Myles)
Rehab (Amy Winehouse)
I'm Outta Love (Anastacia)
Call Me (Blondie)
I Touch Myself (Divinyls)
Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) (Eurythmics)
Lithium (Evanescence)
What About Love (Heart)
Celebrity Skin (Hole)
I Love Rock 'N Roll (Joan Jett)
Cambodia (Kim Wilde)
Love Is A Battlefield (Pat Benatar)
Hit Me With Your Best Shot (Pat Benatar)
Stop Dragin' My Heart Around (Stevie Nicks)
Devil Gate Drive (Suzi Quatro)
Cherry Bomb (The Runaways)
Baby I Don't Care (Transvision Vamp)
I Want Your Love (Transvision Vamp)
-
With that list, you gotta be the wrong side of 45 along with me
Disturbingly accurate guess!

Eggcelent! Grandpa Jim and his chicks! Looking forward to the Paintings ;D

What? No Pretenders, Heart or PJ Harvey?
I see Heart got themselves a showing but their iconic song for me was, "Barracuda".
I love Annie Lennox but I don't immediately associate her as a Rock Chick .. after all she was classically trained (even though it was the flute) at the Royal Academy no less.
Your list jmone but if you've got a nice girl end, that's where I'd give Annie top billing.
-
Your probably right. I've just been going through the back collection and grabbing tracks (and typically so far only one per artist). So I'll have to flesh out the more tracks for the same artist and make sure they all fit the "I would not take her home to met Mum/Mom" category!

-
Patti Smith - Because The Night
Souxie & The Banshees - Dear Prudence
-
Anouk of course! But I'm not proud of her Eurosong Festival song or performance though ;D
Dolores O'Riordan (The Cranberries) - not a big fan but they got a couple of cool songs
Marianne Faithfull
Melissa Etheridge
Blend in some blues:
Dana Fuchs
Susan Tedeschi
A bit of a stretch from rock:
Tori Amos
Abra Moore
Kate Bush
Jennifer Warnes
Aimee Mann
Suzanne Vega
Not rock at all but one of my favorite female artists of all time:
Laurie Anderson (in case you don't know her, listen to the song Gravity's Angel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyvhzyOqEMk)).
-
/me is listeng to: 'Gravity's Angel' by 'Laurie Anderson' from the album 'Mister Heartbreak' [Duration: 6:02 | 192 kbps mp3 (8.3 MB) | rated 3/5 | played 11 times ~ last played 9.6 days ago (25/05/13)
Laurie Anderson is completely nuts! I love her too.
-
rated 3/5
I'll assume that's a typo ;D
-
Just did a quick interweb trawl and apparently this is how you spot a rock chick:
http://totl.net/Southampton/rock-chick.html (http://totl.net/Southampton/rock-chick.html)
.. some interesting criteria that would knock out a few options presented but the criteria can always be debated.
And (I love how poor this attempt is) here's a list of the 10 sexiest rock chicks:
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/entertainment/ug_top_10_sexiest_rock_chicks.html (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/entertainment/ug_top_10_sexiest_rock_chicks.html)
.. obviously, no standards at play when the 1st cab off the rank doesn't even make it as a rock chick by the editor's own estimation.
I'll stick with the jmone JRiver goodness .. 8)
-
rofl - The Number 1 - Dee Snider.
Should I be ashamed that I hardly know any of them?

No worries, Monsieur Mouse, I'll proudly share your "shame". As I said, "no standards" and I'd add, "no idea".... ;D
-
How about 99 Luftballons (Red Balloons) by Nena (German version naturally).
-
Someone already mentioned Annie Lennox/The Eurythmics - I'll add the video for Love is a Stranger.
Missing Persons: Mental Hopscotch and a few others (vocals by Dale Bozio)

Oooh.... If all of the above in the thread were in one room, I would probably only notice Dale Bozio ! :D
----
Of course, the Original Rock Chick was Janis Joplin.

Here is "Best Jazz Chick Who Is Not A Vocalist":

I like this thread. Good mix of artists. My additions
Mainstream (ish)
Concrete Blonde (Johnette Napolitano) - Bloodletting
Fleetwood Mac (Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie) - Sisters of the Moon, Isn't it Midnight
The Cranberries (Dolores O'Riordan) - Zombie
P!ink - U + Ur Hand (Live) & excellent covers of Highway to Hell (AC/DC) & Babe I'm Going to Leave you (Led Zeppelin)
Oz
The Clouds (Trish Young / Jodi Phillis) - Immorta (Live), Baby, Bower of Bliss (& for those in the US try their version of Wichita Lineman)
Divinyls (Chrissie Amphlett) - Boys In Town, Pleasure and Pain, Back to the Wall
Steve

What about a bit of Tina Turner?
Check a dance floor when Nutbush gets pumped out and the formation Madison dancing that follows.
Don't forget Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson from the B-52's. Their lyrical screaming is a signature and even though they back Fred Schneider on Rock Lobster, don't you think they upstage him in the process?

+
Baby Animals (Suze DeMarchi) - Early Warning
Blondie (Debbie Harry) - Atomic
-
Blondie (Debbie Harry) - Atomic
Huh, never realized that was a Blondie song...I've always loved the version on the Trainspotting soundtrack.
Interesting note in the Sleeper wikipedia entry
Sleeper recorded a cover of the Blondie song "Atomic", which was used in the film Trainspotting, after Blondie refused to allow the use of the original version.

Well, 1980 was 33 years ago. Time does pass.

Great Stuff - Looks like I have some listening to do this weekend in compiling an updated playlist.
-
This one's out of left field, but...I was watching part of the Pulse DVD last night and I Gotta Give it up to the Girls on The Great Gig in the Sky!

Ahh, I know these guys had long hair and a ringing falsetto but they might get offended if you called them rock chicks. ?
I notice some Australian influence, so how would you rate Ella Hooper from Killing Heidi with either "Mascara" or "Superman/Supergirl"?
-

Ha ha, well there you go ;D
TBH I'm not so much a fan of Killing Heidi. Can appreciate their stuff, just not a massive fan.
