Hello all,
I am new to this forum but not to J River, I have been using it for a number of years. I built a PC using the SOtM card, and now I also use my laptop as I have bought a Meridian Explorer.
Bit perfect question/s.
I know I am running ‘bit perfect’ as the ‘blue light’ is on, however, when I hover over the it, it says:
Audio Path: Direct
Input: 44.1 KHz 16 bit 2 ch from source format FLAC
Output: 44.1 24 bit (padded) 2 ch using WASAPI (direct connection)
My Meridian Explorer DAC, which gives me three lights. 44K/48 audio (which is on) and 88K/96K audio and 176K/192K audio Is this all ok or should I have more lights on my Explorer?
I have tried all Output modes.
I am using Windows 7 64 bit
I can see the device as: Speakers (Meridian Explorer USB DAC audio)
Bit depth: automatic
Any help and advice would be very helpful
Kind regards
Shaun

Shaun, what's the bit rate and sample rate of the file you're playing?
If it's in fact, 16bit/44.1kHz then it all sounds fine. I think MC is upsampling your 16bit file to 24bit but that shouldn't be a problem (but I'm happy to be corrected by those who know more).
You'd have a real issue if your bit depth / sample rate was higher than MC is telling you.

You are playing a 16 bit / 44.1 file using WASAPI
Your DAC is 24 bit so it must be feed with 24 bit words
This is solved by adding 8 zero bits to the 16
As the sample rate remains the same, as none of the original bits is altered, you have bit perfect output.

Many thanks,
I understand a lot more :)
