Title: Where and how are playlists saved?

I had MC 17 installed on my prior laptop (that is now defunct). All was well, and I was enjoying accessing my many playlists and playing them through my HT setup.

Alas, the laptop died  >:( >:( and I have a replacement running MC18 :D. I was able to remove the harddisk from the old laptop and mount in an external drive case, so at least all of my old data is accessible via a USB connection 8) 8).

My guestion is, how can I locate and import the MC17 playlists from the external disk into MC18 on my new laptop?  ? ?

You can restore a backup.  MC makes them automatically. 

You will probably have to change the drive letter.  See the wiki topic called "Moving Files".
