Each time you enter there, a crash occurs. You may have changed something or do not change anything and the result is a crash.
Eg. tools->options->audio and then just click ok .....
If you already know it, fine. Do you think you can fix it with your next beta release ?
Regards,
Massimo

What version are you using? The latest is at the top of this board?
-
Yes, 194. But this behaviour was also present in the previous ones.
-
This started happening to me 2 or 3 builds ago I reported it and I think it was John was able to reproduce it, but it may take a while to sort it.
Very oddly, after I had rebooted about 5 times the problem seemed to rectify itself, maybe worth a try?
-
I clearly spoke to soon as this is occurring again when accessing the Options page.
Sorry for dud information.
-
i have the same problems with a crash after modifying options.
had it also with older versions.
it's very stable.

Please report the version you're using and the OS.

Please report the version you're using and the OS.
MC 18 .194 - Macbook Pro – OSX 10.8.3 – 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo – 2 GB Ram - All files are WAV stored on a NAS
-
mc 18.0.194
mac os 10.8.4
had the problems also with older mc versions and mac os 10.8.3
-
I can't reproduce this here with build 194. I've tried on 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8.4 systems. I go into Tools / Options and click around, do nothing or change some settings, click Ok or Cancel or the 'X' and can't make it crash. Maybe there's a specific sequence of steps I should try?
-
MAC OS - 10.8.4
MC - .194
Steps to reproduce. I downloaded latest version .194 and launch it.
The I choose:
Tools->Options->Startup
I changed my setting from Location: Audio to Location: Start
Click OK.
Crash.
At this point when I re launch, even if I just choose Tools-Options and then click OK it crashes. This is with Logging - Output to a Log file enabled.
If I than turn off Logging, Output to a Log file it no longer crashes when I click OK (Tools->Options)
And I can now change Location preference to Location:Start
And no crash.
So I believe it is tied into whether or not logging is enabled.

no specific sequence.
i have tried it again.
open the options panel.
no change just press ok and jr crashes.
it's stable reproduceable.
-
I tried the steps that bplexico listed and couldn't repro. Maybe it's a specific audio driver, what audio device do you have selected for output?
Please send log files, I'll see if there's any commonality in them. (johnt at jriver dot com).
-
John - I sent you a log file. When you say audio device selected for output, where do I check for that information?
BTW - to reproduce it this time I noticed you have to toggle the state of logging, quit MC, toggle it again to logging, quit once more and then launch and the crash occurs. See details in my email with the logfile.
Thanks.

I have never enabled logging at any time, but still experience the crashes.
As reported above I had thought this had corrected after a few reboots only to find it had started happening again.
I will attempt to created and send a log file later today.

Ok, What am I doing wrong?
Could somebody advise please?
I am attempting to create a log file of the program closing when accessing the Option page to send to JRiver.
I have found Help/Logging which brings up a box explaining the 3 steps to create a log, but whilst the box is visible MC is unresponsive so unable to reproduce the error. There is only options of 'Done' 'Report Problem' 'Reset Log' and the close button at top left, the 'Report Problem' button produces a log file all others dismiss the box when a log file is not produced.
I have checked the Wiki but this describes a different procedure to that available in MC18, for an earlier version I assume.
Sorry if I am being particularly thick today but would appreciate any advice.
Many thanks

Peter - this is what you need to do:
1. Help->Logging - ensure "Output to a log file" is checked
2. Click Done. (This will dismiss the Logging dialog box)
3. Repeat the sequence of steps that caused the crash.
4. Assuming it then crashes, relaunch MC.
5. Help-> Logging
6. Click "Report problem", this will generate a logfile.
7. Click done.
You now have a logfile located where ever you specified on your hard disk. This you can attach and email to John.
Also I usually choose "Reset log" prior to performing the steps to cause the crash. (This option is in the "Logging" section as well).
Hope that helps.

Thank you Barr, although I was having continuous crashes earlier the program has now begun working properly again at this time. I did manage to get a couple of files that I have sent on to John but these were produced when I clicked the 'Report Problem' button so probably do not contain any useful information.
I have left Logging on and will see what happens when I boot up tomorrow.
Thanks again for your information.

Unfortunately the logs don't show a lot going on - just the normal dialog start/finish messages. Can one of you possibly send me your user settings file and I can try using the same one here? It's possible there is some corruption happening in that file. Here's where the file is located:
/Users/username/Library/Application Support/J River/Media Center 18/Settings/User Settings.ini

I feared that may be the case John as the files were produced without my being able to recreate the problem as I did not know at that time how to dismiss the dialogue box.
I have sent the .ini file you requested.

I tried using your settings file and it worked fine - no crashes. Now I have a "Naim DAC" as a playback device ;D ;D
-
That's funny John, so have I. ;D
We see a Naim NDX and Qute below that, so I have to try and keep it simple.
I will test again tomorrow and see if I can recreate the issue once the Mac has cooled down! ?

Having installed both builds .195 & 196 today this is still an issue in both; although for other reasons build .196 is unusable by me.
