Title: Help Transferring Music Library to New PC
Post by: dragon76 on June 18, 2013, 09:56:36 am
I recently had a problem with tags and cover art of my music library. Due to some issues with my PC (where I had my MC) I had to do clean install of Windows 7, therefore was forced to fully reinstall MC 18. My music library is on an external hard drive and was properly tagged and with cover art - I did most of my tagging within J river itself or with dbpoweramp. After new installation of MC I imported this library and 1/3 of my tags (mainly genres) and cover art was messed up, so I had to retag them once again. How can I avoid this issue in the future? Is there a location, where all my setting and media info are stored? Or maybe I did something wrong when tried to import the library? I plan on building a new HTPC, and this tagging issue really holds me in. Please suggest a good solution to this issue.

The wiki has a topic called "Moving Files".  You could restore a backup of your library.

There is a library backup/restore function - see http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Backup_Library (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Backup_Library)

MC is not very good at this....oddly there are some who think its a strength? Maybe it is for the simplest of moves, took me many attempts to get it close. Good luck, they need to make this intuitive and easy someday.
