Title: JRiver as surround processor with digital in & outputs
Post by: jhmkoop on June 22, 2013, 03:27:47 am
I want to use a PC with JRiver as a kind of surround processor with digital in- and outputs.
I am thinking about the following set-up:
1) Oppo 103 with Audiopraise Vanity modification (4 x SPDIF - out; soon to be expected).
    The Oppo wil be used for playing cd's / dvd's / blueray's,
for streaming music and video from my Nas and for connecting my cable box (HD TV and
     radio incl. surround radio).
I think the Audiopraise modification is necessary since I know no way to get HDMI into a PC
2) HT PC with  RME Hammerfall DSP AES-32 sound card as in- and output
3) JRiver mainly for the functions: DRC (with Acourate VST) and stereo to surround
    up-conversion (Dolby etc.)
From the digital outputs of the RME sound card the signal should go directly
to some audiophile DAC's <> amplifiers <> Loudspeakers.
Volume control will be done in the DAC's.

Has anyone experience with a set-up like this? Is it possible?

Regards,

Joost Koop

Welcome.

I think it's possible, although latency when doing convolution is going to ruin the fun with your cable box.

For music, I would recommend using MC as the source instead of doing digital input.

Since you have an AES card, you can use the Arvis HDMI-2A (http://www.aes-hdmi.com/hdmi-2a.html) for conversion of the audio from HDMI to AES. However, this doesn't really help with video.

Thanks you all for the good advice:I will use MC for all my (ripped) music.

For the cable box the Terratec H7 may be an option. Does anybody know if that tuner is supported by MC?
