Title: Isolate use of sidecar xml to home videos only?

Since metadata cannot be stored in the videofile itself in a consistent manner between container types (avi, mkv, etc) I'd like to store the metadata in sidecars.

I have a lot of videos and TV series for which I do not need sidecar files.

Is it currently possible to isolate the use of sidecars to home videos only?

Has JRiver investigated the possibilities wrt. writing metadata to the file?
