Title: Noob question on locking views
Post by: matdraper on July 01, 2013, 01:41:28 pm
Hi, I'm new to Media Center, and trialing before purchase... I've spent a couple of hours trawling around but can't find an answer to what is probably too simple to be in a FAQ!

I'd like to lock the views of Media Centre, eg have 'Playing Now' always in a pane at the top right, an 'Artists' list at the top left etc etc, and *keep* them that way. Trouble is whenever I click on a different category at the left-hand side, the most recent view switches to that category.

Apologies and  thank in advance.

*Bump* Actually, this is a problem I encountered myself. Is this a bug or are we doing it wrong?

Locking views is working fine for me.

How are you locking your views? Are you using "View -> Split View -> Lock View x"? If you are, maybe you could post a screenshot of how MC looks for you.

Yes, that's what I do. After closing and reopening the Application the locked view shows the StartPage. I can post a Screenshot later.

Try Tools - Options - Startup - Last Location.

(Taken from memory since I am not at the PC right now.)

Not necessary any more. Vagskal should be right. "After closing and reopening [...]" was the missing hint ;)

Many thanks! With..

View -> Split View -> Lock View

and..

Tools - Options - Startup - Last Location

I can now get it to keep the layout I like. (Although strangely now I get only 1 view when I set it to '3 views' - I will settle for 2 because that works OK.)

It also seems to have an interesting preference for playing music to the TV in the living room, which really annoys the wife!

I think I shall go for it and purchase - there seems to be a lot to play with here.
Thanks again
