The problem started several updates ago... apologies, I can't be specific.
I have tried every possible combination of settings, and always get the same error message, playback could not be started in "96 KHz, 16 bit" mode, 16 bit, 48 KHz is suggested, and it works... but I prefer the sound upsampled to 96 KHz 24 bit. It used to work perfectly, all music was upsampled to 24 bit, 96 KHz and output via WASAPI (excepting that already 24 bit, 96 KHz).
Using a Windows 7 desktop, sound output via HDMI using an NVIDIA sound/video combo to an Onkyo TX-NR905 receiver. Before any suggested settings are recommended, I have systematically tried every possible combination of settings and output formats and absolutely nothing will output 24 bit 96 KHz. The sound/video card has not been updated... Windows 7 and JRiver have. Since the problem seems to be insurmountable with "settings" how might I go back to using an older version of MC18 that worked?
Thank You,

What does the Windows control panel list for supported formats?

I assume your Nvidia drivers are up to date? (320.49)

Thank you, 6233638.
Supported formats are attached. The Nvidia driver is 9.18.13.1106, for a GT 240 (dated 18/01/13).

In Options > Audio > WASAPI > Output mode settings, are you using 'Automatic' for bitdepth? If not, please try it.
If you are, please try the two 24-bit variants (24-bit and 24-bit in a 32-bit package).

That didn't work... so I reset the default output format in Windows: Sound > Advanced tab to 24 bit, 96 KHz and that has fixed the problem... 24 bit 96 KHz output is now functioning again... thought it hadn't been an issue before when the default output was set to earlier 16 bit, 44.1 KHz.
