Title: 2.1 (JRSS Mixing) has no Bass Management
Post by: altsouza on July 07, 2013, 11:57:53 am
Hi,

I am making experimentations with 2.1 or 2.0 output format screen (JRSS mixing). I am trying many crossover points in 2.1 to test it, but there are no  bass management on the ouput. The Sub aparently outputs the same low frequency in 2.1 , even if a try 200hz just to test it.
I am using a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 sound card in Win 7 (64bit), with output in Left, Right and Sub (Sub is on output  4).
There are no bass management on the sub crossover point.
The sub also outputs in 2.0. Strange!!! Would't it be mute??
Any help will be wellcome.
Thanks
Antonio

You need to set the output format to 5.1 and turn on JRSS. If you only want 2.1, then check "For stereo sources , only mix to 2.1". If using bass management in the Room Correction DSP, then I recommend also setting the Subwoofer to silent in Output Format. When you use bass management, JRiver will then send output on channels 1, 2, & 4 with the other channels silent.

Thank you.
So why there are crossover frequencies  the output format screen?
Do I need to use the room correction for crossover points?

The Subwoofer section in Output Format existed before bass management was available. It leaves the main speakers fullrange and then creates a new subwoofer channel by combining the main speaker signals and adding a lowpass filter to only allow information below the selected frequency. The method used by JRSS may differ from my description, but this is basically what is happening.

If you want more advanced control over crossover slopes, then you sent it to Silent in Output Format and use the Room Correction DSP to setup bass management.

Thanks for clarifying that!
