Title: Transfer MC settings to a new computer
Post by: guy007 on July 08, 2013, 08:45:32 pm
Hi. I've spent a lot of time customizing Media Center 18 (views, library fields, etc.) as well as ripping lots of classical discs. Now I want to transfer all the settings, views and ripped fields to a new (bigger and better) dedicated computer. How can I do this without having to rewrite all my custom fields, views, etc. I have MC 18 installed on both computers. thx for ur help. guy

What if you copy your "backup database" to new computer after installing MC on it, then do a restore database. I think (not 100% sure) that the backup also saves your settings.

On our wiki, the topic called "Moving Files" may help.

Yes that's the way - I'm 100% sure done it twice this month -- will also transfer playlists, web links etc. Saves a hell of a lot of time if you check the boxes before restoring. Make sure you first have backups of everything though  :P

If on a client PC after the restore yYou'll get "dead links" of course --   select all and delete them from the "local" library. When you reconnect  to your server NAS or PC you are set to go. You might have to change some setting for audio output, dsp studio for playing locally though - but thats fast.

As Jim suggested, if its your main PC (server), after you have "restored" repoint the database by Rename,Move Copy command under library tools -- read the wiki first, though. It is also possible to reimport provided that your tags are written to the file (select fix broken links in import options  - you will lose some autogenerated information like last played etc.
