Title: Another NAS connection problem. Please HELP
Post by: Urbanito on July 15, 2013, 11:07:54 am
I learned almost everything about NAS and, on my local network it works perfectly: I rip my CD to the NAS, I have  libraries in my 3 computers from were I can see and play my music.
The problem, never solved, is that I can get to the NAS from the Internet through an URL specially created, when I am on the NET far from my local network and see it content, but I can't use MC to listen to my music.
I created a new library with the external access to the NAS, but I can't import to it any folder.
I know that I have a password created by MC, but I am never asked to wright it.
I am really lost by just a bit, I suppose, and will appreciate very much a detailed instruction how to proceed.

Best regards

Urbanito
PS: I am using a no-ip address.

Just so I understand, are you trying to access and then "stream" music over the internet from your NAS to MC?

I've never tried this at all, my presumption had always been that this would not work well at all, if at all.
My assumption would have been that you would at minimum have to copy (FTP?) the files from your NAS, over the internet, to the local computer, prior to being able to play back.

Maybe I'm not understanding what your attempting to do though.

Hi,

I have all Audio, Video and Pictures loaded on my NAS, no files on my HTPC and it work's fine.

Could tell a bit more about your set-up?

If you have a router in between make sure it's able to pass streams, so you have to enable MMS (Microsoft Media Stream Support)

You cannot connect to your NAS from the Internet using MC.
From the Internet you can connect to a Media Center server using this: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/WebGizmo
From what I read on the wiki, you need to also set up a port forward on your router for 52199 port towards the local IP of your PC hosting Media Center server.
Then you should be able to access your library files from the Internet by inputing this in a web browser: http://yourdomainname.no-ip.org:52199.

The local PC should be online of course...:)

Thank you very very much to all.
As I have said this was a big/small problem that just my bad memory didn't allow me to solve.
Of course I can't connect to my NAS from the Internet using MC.
I was going around with the solution in front of my eyes.
Now I know, I had already the port 52199 opened on my router and my domain name.no-ip.org:52199. I just forgot that this should be on my main PC with MC and not on the NAS.
Thanks again, specially bivan, for your time and clear instructions.

Best regards
