I get this error message that my drive is not ready when I go to burn my CD, of course evrything is ready. My writer is a brand new Plexwriter40/12-40a. Also using Windows me with a Dell Pentium 4. Everything else works great just cant burn.

That's the bummer with buying the latest, greatest burner...you have to wait for the software driver developers to develop support for them. So, your burner is probably not supported and you'll have to wait a few months for a new release that does support it. Of course, JRiver's JohnT will know for sure.
BTW - I saw that burner the other day and said 'Wow...finally a burner that supports CD-RWs at a speed greater than 10x'. So, do you have to buy special 12x-compatible CD-RWs or do the 10x High-Speed CD-RWs work fine? (I'm a Plextor fan and own the 12x/10/32A and use CD-RWs about 95% of the time.)

Dan,
go to Settings->Options->CD Writer Settings and make sure that "Use generic driver" is checked.
Generic driver should recognize all new CD wirters.
