Title: Will Media Server run auto-import in background ?
Post by: kstuart on July 25, 2013, 09:32:23 pm
If I have:

* Startup set to Media Server (on Windows startup)
* Run Auto-Import in Background is checked

Will Media Server run the auto-import (so that Clients can see the new items) ?

Or does Media Center itself need to be running all the time in order for the Clients to have access to those new items that would be added by Auto-Import running in the background ?

Thanks !

As far as I'm aware the Media Server takes care of the auto-import.

Auto-import does not periodically run an import, as some people seem to think but it works on update notifications from the OS. When MC watches a folder for updates, it receives a sort of a notification from the OS so MC can scan and import the new files. Auto-import should work almost instantly most of the time, but should take no more than minutes before picking up the changes. Downside is that these 'notifications' don't work on all types of folders. Certain NAS devices don't support this properly for instance.

It should but Auto-import has not been working correctly for me (on local drives) for a while now.

Yeh, I'm sorry I have no idea why that wouldn't work, you're not the only one who struggle with it  :-\.
