Title: Tagging Question
Post by: makersjam on July 31, 2013, 10:30:54 am
Is it possible to select multiple files and add text to the end of a field?

In my case I am wanting to add ' (live)' to the end of the name field in some of my live shows.

Thanks for any help.

If you mean without changing whatever is Existing then no.  Even if you leave the "[Varies]" text in there.  Once you have made changes to the field then it get's replaced with the actual word "[varies]" plus whatever you added.  So you would end up with "[Varies] Live" in all the fields.

I am sure one of these geniuses though as an "Expression" for adding to an existing field instead of replacing it. :-)

Yes, you can do this.

Select all the files you want changed, and either F2 edit the cell to change, or use the Tag Action Window and enter into the cell:

=[field name]/ (live)

Thanks for your help guys.

MrC... I can't seem to get it to work. I selected all the files I want to change and in the Tag Action Window replace '[Varies]' in the Name cell with '=[field name]/ (live)'. All it does is change every song's name to that.

Am I goofing up something?

You have to replace field name with the actual field's name (hence the italics).  Which field is it?  For example, Name:

   =[Name]/ (live)
