Another day, another attempt at making up a new definition of bitperfect playback: http://www.audioholics.com/how-to-shop/best-audiophile-music-software (http://www.audioholics.com/how-to-shop/best-audiophile-music-software)
I'm really disappointed that Audioholics has descended into such garbage. Gene's use of classical audiophoolery phrases and fallacies ("up to the reader to decide", "not everything can be fully explained ", etc) in defending the piece shows more like this is coming.

I thought it was a bit strange that he said "similarly priced"... at his quoted $49 and $129.. I don't find that very similar..

Thanks this was ... euh ... entertaining ;D
Following this on the site header ...
Let our rigorous testing and reviews be your guidelines to A/V equipment
and then reading things like the ratings Subjective Sound Quality: x
and
...some people will hear a tremendous difference while others will not.
not to mention "that-which-shall-not-be-named"represents the most technically intelligent software available
I do not know this site, so I will not post my "Subjective Credibility Rating" here.
I sent your link to a friend of mine who as an audio engineer found this one amusing If the power supply introduces noise or there is jitter on the square wave this results in a square wave that is not identical to the original
I think you should let the guys at Hydrogen Audio have go at this -- post the link on their forum and they will go ballistic.
Maybe this post could be moved to the forum "Music, Movies, Politics, and Other Cheap Thrills" ;D

If you are really applying science, then you should avoid "Ad Hominem" attacks.
-
PS And the guy in the link, is the only guy who both a) thinks that different music players sound different, and b) does not think that Foobar sounds worse than any of the players he listed.
-
Figure this. According to this guy, JRiver is the worst sounding of 'em all ::)
