Title: Minor annoyance with Dates
Post by: jctcom on August 21, 2013, 11:00:50 pm
Hey all.

I am from Canada and as such most Canadians use a date format of dd/mm/yyyy

In MC if I type a date using "-" instead of "/" it automatically sets the date properly with the "/" which is great.  Except that dates that include a Month lower than "12" the "dd" and "mm" get reversed.  This does not happen if using the "/" during the actual date entry.

For instance if I want 4th Of October 2007  I normally would type "04-10-07".  MC changes that to "10/04/2007" instead of "04/10/2007"

If I type it using the "/" then this does not happen.  Therefore it is only a minor annoyance.  It's just that the "-" is easier to get to since it is up with the numbers on the keyboard.

This happens in both MC19 as well as 18.

Don't know if this is actually considered to be a bug or if it's going to be one of those "If it hurts then don't do it" kind of situations. lol.

Carl.

Well us down South here write dates in this format: "04/10/2007"

So a bug ... probably not so much...

I would speculate to say that there would have to be a date format option to achieve the desired result you want.

Actually since it only reverses it if both of the "dd" and "mm" are below 12 I would say it is a bug.  Otherwise it would stick to a particular format and a number higher than 12 in 1 of the 2 sections would produce an error.  Or it would reverse it whether or not both numbers are below 12.

Besides a properly formatted date field should conform to the system date configuration.

So.  Yes.  A bug.

Also if you in the US of A were to type in "04-10-07" it would change it to "10/04/2007"  So Still a bug.

I live in France, and have the same thing (since as long as I can remember .. version 15 I guess) -- I just got used to it ... doesn't affect anything .. like Carl says as long as the input conforms to your system settings, your ok  :)

I talk about this issue here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=80282.msg547334#msg547334

It's not clear to me there's any change that would be universally better, but would be happy to discuss if people have suggestions.

Thanks.
