Title: SACD DSD Files into FLAC container : JRiver don't play
Post by: Lupin 3rd on August 28, 2013, 04:19:10 pm
Hi all,
I own some DSD files encapsulated into FLAC container.
I do not know who is the author of those files but they play well on my previous Lumin Music player.

Today I've tested those files in JRiver 18 but It don't play them.  :(
JRiver perfectly read tags of those flacs but if I listen to the sound I can hear only noise.

I've some other .dff files that jriver play well.

So my questions are:
1) there is some way to play those flacs in JRiver?
2) there is some tool to extract .dff files from those flacs ?

thank you all.

FLAC is a container for PCM audio. I'd see if there is some way to extract the original DSD audio from them. People have also done the same thing with DTS.
It may be as simple as using Media Center to convert to Uncompressed WAV, and renaming that to DSF or DFF. I really don't know.

The problem is that due to the way that hardware devices work, it may actually work in some rare cases.
They basically see an audio stream, and analyze it to see what kind of audio it contains.
Software knows that the file is FLAC and that it can only contain PCM audio, so it does not "look" for anything else.

I'd sure recommend DSF, DFF, or SACD ISO instead of a gummed up FLAC file.

I'd sure recommend DSF, DFF, or SACD ISO instead of a gummed up FLAC file.

I agree but those files are very good and I don't want to lose them.
So it'll be fantastic if JRiver can play them.
If not I need a tool to extract them back to dff or dsf files....

I send a test file to JRiver team.
