Title: MC19 won't run
Post by: avpman on August 29, 2013, 09:46:05 am
I had MC V17 (17.0.19) and V18 (18.0.212) installed and running fine on my PC. I installed V19 (19.0.32) and now V18 won't work and neither will V19. V18 shows the splash screen on startup and immediately crashes. Attempts to run V19 do nothing, no error message, no splash screen nothing. However, V17 continues to run fine.

I have uninstalled both V18 and V19 and reinstalled V18 and it still crashes. I have re-downloaded fresh copies of the installer files.

Please help!

Confirm which builds are installed.  Reboot after each install.

V17 is 17.0.89
How can I confirm the build numbers for V18 and V19 when they won't run? Since they won't run I can't get to an "about" dialog box. I noted in the OP that I did install the latest builds from the forum.

File names of the downloads.

17.0.89 is an old build of 17.

MC18 previously ran fine with that build of MC17. MC18 and MC19 broke only after the installation of MC19. Should I remove or upgrade MC17 to troubleshoot? Right now it's my ONLY working copy so I'm a bit nervous about touching it. What was the latest build of MC17 and where would I get it?

Which builds are you installing?  It matters.

From the OP:

Is this what you were looking for? I have copies of the installation files for V18 and V19. I even downloaded them again to insure they weren't corrupt in some way.

Shut down all copies of Media Server that may be running.  Make sure no other version of MC is running when you install.

Reboot and reinstall MC19.0.32.  What happens when you try to run it?

Do the same for MC18.0.212 if that doesn't work.

Did as above. No copies of Mediaserver or Mediacenter were running. Below is the info from the windows event log:

What OS is it?  And how old is the machine?

Virus checkers sometimes cause this kind of problem.

Sorry about the trouble.  This is a strange problem, so it's hard to know what might be happening.

You might go to your library folder ([User]\Roaming\J River\Media Center 19\Library) and rename it.  Does that get the program running?

You could also uninstall MC19 and reinstall.

Yup, moving the library out of the way did it!  ;D I keep a "synched" library on this machine. So I "restored" a backup from the master PC and all is well. I would however like to have MC18 on this PC too. I'll try reinstalling MC18 tomorrow.

Thanks for your help!
