Title: Loud pop (snap)
Post by: JRFan on August 30, 2013, 02:52:21 pm
I have read various topics regarding loud pops when switching sample rates or between PCM & DSD.
I was not able to see if anyone has loud pops when switching between stereo & DD5.1 on video.
I don't know if the issue lies with my receiver or something to do with J River.
I am at a bit of a loss on what experiment I could perform to help narrow the problem down.

I have had this problem for a long time (it is not new). It took to now to finally isolate the conditions.
When watching a TV show the first part of the show "previously on .." is in stereo, the receiver plays Prologic II. Then when the show starts the audio switches to DD5.1 with the accompanying pop.

If no one has experienced this then perhaps it is best I start with the receiver.
Thank you for any feed back.

Have you considered decoding on the PC instead of bitstreaming?

It can provide more flexibility for things like this (and ultimately better quality).

I will try that.
Thanks.

Is it coming from your speakers or the reciever. I had a reciever that made a pretty good "relay closing" snap when it went into 5.1..

Good question but definitely the speakers. It will launch you out of the couch if you forget to turn it down.
