Title: Loss of focus after start up
Post by: akira54 on September 02, 2013, 03:47:03 pm
When MC starts and before I have done anything at all it has already lost focus. I use a Harmony remote and cannot get focus back except by grabbing the keyboard. I have set MC to autostart and I have no other programs as far as I know that start later. What is the best way to tackle this problem?

Hoping that MC Team is fixing Focus Bugs in near future.  ;)
MC still has more focus bugs than this one since MC 18.0.90

That may be something like an icon from another program in the notification area.  I don't think it's a focus problem in MC.

Try running Media Server on Windows Start.

Also having on going focus issues with MC 18, not installed my 19 yet. What I find is that frequently on theatre view the task bar appears and focus is lost.

Is there some way to disable any other prog from taking focus if MC can't solve this?

Cheers

I have MC 17, 18 & 19 running on the same machine with Win 7 x64 (Aero)
No focus problems with MC 17!

I think it was MC 18.0.90 were the Big change happened in MC. After that i had many focus bugs. Some disappeared , some are still there in MC 19.
- Theater View, switching zone-> lose focus
- Entering DSP settings -> sometimes it works, sometimes DSP setting window get lost in background as an empty window.

I think there are some more, as you can read above.
As i said, working with MC 17-> No problems.

- Theater View, switching zone-> lose focus

Let's focus on this one first.

Could you provide a step-by-step to reproduce?  Does switching visualizations matter?  Could you describe what input type you're using and the behavior you're seeing?

Thanks.

I'm using iMon Software + Remote

Most time i switch when i'm in playing now in theater view. But it's the same if i switch in mainscreen of theater view,
without playing anything.

When i switch a zone with remote, i can't navigate in theater view anymore (up/down/left/right) or if i press up or down with remote it switches to an other zone.

Afterwards i press the button on remote to switch to standard view and back to theater view, it is working again. This is a very annoying thing, because i switch zones very often.

When listening to music the only visualization which is running, is cover art, nothing more.

Could you test without the imon software and without the remote?

Try an Internet search for imon problems.

My System is running now over 2 years. No problems (focus) at all until now, until MC Team tried to let windows code behind (18.0.90).
After that all focus problems started. You should know it. There were more problems than this one.
And i didn't install thousands of tools in that time. It's just my HTPC and i don't use it for anything else.

Until now i tried to switch zone with keyboard shortcut. Same problem.
Deactivated imon software. Same problem.
Tried it with MC 17. No problem!

If I go into Theater View > Gadgets > Playing Now, then pick different zones from the secondary roller and press 'Enter', the program switches zones and keyboard arrow keys keep working.  An MCE remote is just a limited keyboard with a green button (basically), so the same applies to the remote.

What if you try exactly the same, using a keyboard?

Sorry, i wanted to say, i tried to switch zone with keyboard. Same behaviour.
Just works fine with MC 17. I tried both. With MC 18 it worked until build 90,too. (Where MC team changed the code)

What i forgot to say. All other buttons seem to work. Just navigating through theater view doesn't work anymore until i switch to standard and back to theater view.(With remote)

Could be the imon software.

1. Why is it working with MC 17?
2. I closed iMon software and tried it with keyboard-> same result!

Does it matter what view MC is showing in Standard View?

Does switching visualizations, closing DSP Studio, disabling third-party plugins (Options > Services), etc. change the behavior?

Are you using the experimental 'exclusive' drawing mode for Theater View?  If so, please try without it.

Thanks.

Does it matter what view MC is showing in Standard View?

That's the point. I'm using theater view 95 percent and perhaps 5 percent standard view. MC is starting with playing now in standard view. I switched to video in standard view, then back to theater view, and then tried zone switching.
It IS working normal.

So what's wrong here?

Could it be, that this:
- Entering DSP settings -> sometimes it works, sometimes DSP setting window get lost in background as an empty window.

is a similar problem, but i couldn't reproduce it until now.

Good detective work.

It's something related to Standard View being in Playing Now mode.

Give me a while to debug and I'll post when I know more.

Next build:
Fixed: If something triggered a Standard View view switch while Theater View was showing, it could steal the keyboard / remote focus.
