Title: Q: Prebuffering and memory playback ??
Post by: kstuart on September 07, 2013, 02:29:29 pm
What is the relationship between the prebuffering buffer and memory playback, and what happens when ?

Is the 6 second buffer filled from the converted PCM in the 1gb of RAM ?

I'm pretty sure it is. It's decoded into memory, then the prebuffering buffer and then any hardware/driver buffers.

Any more info available from JRiver staff ?   Thanks.

I could be mistaken, but I think the prebuffering option means that Media Center will not start to play the file until it has 2-20s of audio buffered. (which will come from the decoded audio cache if memory playback is enabled)

This is mostly for slow network devices rather than playing files off local drives.
